I saw this in Victory music but haven't seen any announcements down here, at the Graveyard of the Pacific...which is the name of at least two concerts, Oct 28 at 7 p.m. in Astoria and October 29 in the p.m. in Ilwaco. If you haven't seen the Astoria museum, it is amazing. Hank Cramer, well-known singer around here, will be the lead. I don't really have more info but it should be nice. mg

Visitors can obtain a shipwreck passport at any of the participating sites. Each site will have their own rubber stamp to indicate that the visitor has visited that site. Well come on down. I know Susie McAleer and John Dwyer wrote a song about some disaster at the bar...a very nice song but complicated chorus. Jon Pfaff has his new c.d. out and I think it has been recorded. I will have to find where I misplaced it and give it a listen.

Who knows songs about the Columbia River? There seem to be surprisingly few. mg

Graveyard of the Pacific Shipwreck Week Hits Astoria; Coastal Communities Unite to Celebrate Maritime Heritage, 100th Anniversary of Peter Iredale Shipwreck
Historians, curators, marine experts and local residents are joining together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Peter Iredale shipwreck during the Graveyard of the Pacific Shipwreck Week. With nine days of activities including artifact and photo exhibits, underwater archeology, stories from survivors, Columbia River Bar pilot demonstrations and festive sea shanties (songs), the commemoration offers unusual and lively ways to learn more about the Pacific Northwest's maritime heritage.
Made from iron and steel in 1890, the Peter Iredale washed ashore 100 years ago on Oct. 25, 1906, after attempting to navigate the treacherous mouth of the Columbia River through high winds on its way to Portland, Ore. Currently, the site provides a popular shipwreck to photograph because of its accessibility from the shore at Fort Stevens State Park. Still known as a dangerous crossing, the Columbia River Bar took on the name of the Graveyard of the Pacific with more than 2,000 vessels meeting their end where tumultuous river and ocean water collide.
