Finding Sheet Music On The Web

Apart from a relatively small number of sites that house images of sheet music on the Web, there are perhaps thousands that provide MIDI files for at least 100,000 songs and tunes. Armed with simple software it is quite easy to turn these MIDI files into professional looking sheet music - what's more you can choose the size, layout, key etc. to your heart's content.

How to find the Midi file in the first place?

Easy! Go to http://www.aitech.ac.jp/~ckelly/midi/help/midi-search.html and use one of the several search engines available. Midi Explorer is a beauty. With this tool you'll find a huge range of musical styles, from Jethro Tull to Verdi to Arab dance music.

How to print the sheet music from a Midi file?

Go to http://www.ntworthy.com/index.html and download a Shareware copy of NoteWorthy Composer. It's easy to set up and the Help documentation is quite user friendly. There are lots of other packages that do the same job - this is the one that a number of this Forum's members use.

Regards
John

PS Thought that this may be the start of a useful thread location to direct these types of enquiries.

John, thanks for the great midi site. I have MusicTime Deluxe, which can open a midi file and turns it instantly into sheet music. I didn't even know I could do that until I tried to open one of the files I found via your site! (Some day I'm going to read the manual).

Thanks - loads of stuff to play with instead of working. Try this site for midis and lyrics - you'll be there for hours!
