I thought in the midwest or s west somewhere - and perhaps get things in proportion again - it's about time too. Give each type a fair shake especially American Old Time which I love and I think is much neglected these days.

Well you are all welcome to come to my place 35 miles west of Denver. Fourth of July would be good. Got two acres of forest, should be able to accomodate2-300 people. Reckon we'd have to rent couple PortaPotties.

You might want to check out the Big Muddy Festival in Boonville, Missouri, on April 9 & 10. Cathy Barton and Dave Para do some pretty good old-timey stuff with banjo, guitar and hammered dulcimer, and on the 10th Gordon Bok, Ann Mayo Muir and Ed Trickett will be playing there. You can reach Dave Para at dpara@mid-mo.net for more information. You can see more concerning their tour schedules on the Folk-Legacy web site. When you get there, click on "tour" in the frame on the left.

If this is too far from home, take ol' Lonesome up on his offer and make a festival of your own in the high country. Sounds like fun! After reading what he had to say about Rick Fielding's CD, you can rely on his good taste!

As one of the organizers of The Lake County Folk Festival (N. Illinois) I can warn you that it takes a lot of work and a lot of people helping to successfully launch a new festival. I started out by talking to a lot of folks who had previously organized festivals and their unanymous advice on starting a festival was "DON'T". But we didn't take that bit of advice and are going into the 5th Annual this year. We have put together a checklist of everything that has to be done 1. Way before 2. The day before and 3. The day of the festival. I'll be glad to send you a copy of the basic list, with some of our experiences, observations and recommendations. Drop me a line at folkie@prodigy.net if you are interested.
