Yet another event at Swinton - Boy do we spoil you:-) Quoting from the mad ramblings of Rob Dunford, Folk fan and Swinton rugby league
afficionado...

"Joint promotion: Swinton Folk Club and Swinton Lions rugby league supporters trust present a Folk music and Lancashire night on Monday 27th November at Folly social club, Station Road (B5231), Swinton.

For those of you who didn't know, hang your heads in shame, but the 27th November is officially "Lancashire Day". To celebrate this momentous occasion, in association with the White Lion Folk Club, we will have a selection of artists plus, of course, your traditional hot pot supper.

Artists lines up so far are JP Slidewell 'Traditional music delivered today', Bandersnatch 'Electric Folk with a soft rock veneer' and, topping the bill, Swinton's very own Feet in Mouths 'Lancashire Songs, Lancashire Laughs: The most talented bunch the White Lion hs ever thrown out.'

To fill you in with a bit more info on the bands:

J.P. Slidewell: Two albums to date. 'From light to darkness' and his latest 'As it happened' Website: www.myspace.com/jpslidewell

Bandersnatch: Their debut album 'Round and Round' is receiving favourable critical reviews. Website: www.bandersnatch.org.uk

Both the above artists are regular visitors to Swinton Folk Club at the White Lion and Supporters' Trust memeber Rob Dunford had helped them in promotional work, including studio appearances and album airplay on Folk music programs on UK and Irish radio stations.

Feet in Mouths: Busy boys, focusing on earning the pounds and pennies, processing them into pints. Nowt unusual there then. Albums and websites can wait for another day.

Tickets are £5 via 0161 793 5441; 078500 85889 or at the White Lion Folk Club on Monday evenings or during the Festival 20/21 October or the Boat Band concert in the 17th November."

End of message from computerless Rob Dunford:-) From me now - Rob has done a grand job with the clubs publicity in the press and on the radio for ages. I am more than happy to help in in advertising an event he has also put a lot of effort into. Get yer bums down to the Folly on the 27th and lets have a grand do.

Cheers

Oh - forgot to mention the connection between Swinton Lions RLFC and Swinton Folk Club - The White Lion is where the 'Lions' originaly met! There are photos all over the walls of the Folk Club of famous past players. The name 'Lions' originated at the pub and all the Folk Clubs publicity incorporates a White Lion, Rampant - The same symbol used by the Rugby club:-)

The Boat Band wuz seriously good. Cajun rhythms so tight you couldn't put a gigarette (typo...someone who smokes during a gig perhaps.) paper between the beat. They made excellent music look really easy which shows a solid gigging band. Kate was brilliant on violin and she has a superb voice and Tony played accordian (deon?) that made foot tapping involuntry.

Comment by Rob Dunford cracked me up...he said the singer could sing the names of the Arsenal football team and make it sound Cajun.

Greg's guitar playing was the oil that that made the whole machine run sweetly.

Impressed of Swinton
