15 Oct 06 - 09:18 AM (#1859305) Subject: Wonderful Ralph Stanley Album From: mustradclub Sorry if this is old news for some of you but I have just come across a new album by Ralph Stanley called "A Distant Land To Roam. Songs Of the Carter Family. The album came out earlier this year. Some of Ralphs earlier solo stuff has in my opinion been for completists only. However this album has got a lot going for it.One track especially called "Motherless Children" where Ralph is accompanied by a lone fiddle player is absolutely beautiful. One word of warning though this is definitely not a bluegrass album more of a relaxed down homey old timey record. Strangely the frailty of Ralphs voice (he is now 79 years old)adds a wonderful poingnancy to the whole album. Get hold of a copy if you can. |
