15 Oct 06 - 09:54 AM (#1859324) Subject: Mugather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: Sooz I was going to leave this in the Gainsborough Folk Festival thread but then I thought what the hell - I'll litter the place up with a new thread! Sunday the 22nd October is Mudcat day at Gainsborough Folk Festival. It will include: A tunes session with Twelve String Growler, Tittiflutti and Banjo Flower in the Eight Jolly Brewers at 12 noon. A general meet and chat at the Old Nick Theatre from 12.30pm followed by an open stage at 1.30pm and a concert at 4.30pm with the chance to hear Strollin' Johnny, Hipflask Andy and El Greko. A singaround will continue upstairs in the Eight Jolly Brewers from lunchtime until every one has run out of songs or steam. It would be nice to know in advance who would like a spot in the open stage so that I can have some idea of timings. |

16 Oct 06 - 04:23 PM (#1860665) Subject: RE: Mugather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: MoorleyMan I've just confirmed I'll be there - and I'm looking forward to what promises to be a great lineup. Oh - and Sooz tells me there's a teeny correction to the timetable given above - ie the Grand Mudcat Concert starts at 4 pm (not 4.30) in order to give the featured Catters a good innings... (note the cricket metaphor there Mike!) I've booked me spot on the Open Stage - so who else is gonna sign up then? (PM the luvly Sooz pronto!) Sooz didn't mention the venue for this Extravaganza - it's the Old Nick Hall, which I believe is in Cross Street. Maybe we need a blue clicky thing to a multimap link or whatever so that folks can find it easily. CU all on Sunday. Cheers m' dears, M |

17 Oct 06 - 01:06 PM (#1861356) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: My guru always said The MudGathers I've been running at both Banbury and Bedworth have developed a tradition of bringing chocolate to share over the past few years. Both festivals have generously provided a tin of Choccies for the Gathers and various MuddyCats have also brought chocolate with them to share. Some have even created chocolate concoctions, chocolate coated Celery, Chillies and Strawberries to name but a few. The USA Catters are even thinking on the lines of Chocolate covered Salmon, but I don't think that's been tried yet..... It is a good tradition, if a little strange sometimes! |
17 Oct 06 - 01:23 PM (#1861364) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: Rasener Not fair if you are allergic to chocolate though, as I am :-) |
17 Oct 06 - 02:29 PM (#1861420) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: Georgiansilver Chocolate covered salmon..sounds a bit fishy to me......can promise a good mudgather though at the festival...Sunday.....as suggested. Best wishes, Mike. |

However, the old fingers seem to be a bit out of whack with others too, so I forgive you. I'm gonna stay off the chocs.... my figure you see! Ha! Ha! Ha! (salmon really?!!!) |
17 Oct 06 - 03:22 PM (#1861468) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: Rasener Your figure Tutti Flutey. Oh to be as skinny as you again :-) |

18 Oct 06 - 04:37 AM (#1861955) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: 12string growler Villan Another bad choice of wording. "Oh to be as Skinny as you again" As Tutti-fluteys dad and also being somewhat narra meself, "Skinny" is not a word I like, having had the P155 ripped and bullied for years for being built along similar lines. Lithe is so much nicer even if I did spill at wong. Chris |

18 Oct 06 - 07:32 AM (#1862045) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: Rasener I don't think I would like to do it as drastic as Strollin'. He did it the very very tough way. But don't it make you envious :-) In fact when I saw Strollin' at MRFC two weeks ago, the first comment was Hi Skinny. I hope he didn't get offended as it was a compliment. :-) |
18 Oct 06 - 08:03 AM (#1862060) Subject: RE: Mudgather at Gainsborough 22nd October From: 12string growler Les, No worries Mate, apo' accepted. See ya Sunday. Strollin Johnny is not the only 'catter to try the Pancreatitus diet. Old Grizzly did it too, din't loose much size (relatively), did shed around 6 stone though. Now he's gone and done his right arm in, something to do with a partially severed tendon. Get well soon OG, we needs ya. |

See y'all on Sunday (if not before), at the Old Nick just a little after noon for a "devil of a time"! The Open Stage promises to be great fun (I've booked me spot already!), but I'm especially looking forward to seeing in the Mudcat Concert on Sunday from 1600 to (I think, if I've worked the timings out right) 1915-1930. With such a strong lineup - Strollin' Johnny, HipFlaskAndy and ElGreko - well ye can't go wrong! |

I thought he did a grand job getting a mix of Trad singers and Us singer song whinger types. Also a quip for every occasion. All I can say is well done and if it was all of the cuff stuff you must have bloody big cuffs and a very reliable washing machine. Well done mate. |
