Whats Up With Mudcat

Wow, weird stuff. Looks like we lost an hour or two. Looks like my server had the old Database cached. Should be better now, but we'll see...

my total # of PMs just changed...along with people's names. I think an old database is still with us

OK, I think I just got things... something-or-other. Should be closer to normal now.

I noticed that on mine too, Bill. Just reversed- 36 instead of the older 63.

Thanks for putting all that time and effort on the ol' cat today, Max and Jeff. I hope there is a tremendous feeling of satisfaction for you.

Ref info?

Found the Mudcat fixed thread and read okay.
Posted to new New Firefox thread and confirmed post (link to older thread)
Read a couple of threads.
Next thread truncated load with message "Your cookie is corrupt"
My dial-up connection failed (common, but not a 'cat problem).
Reconnected, and got same "cookie corrupt" message.
Reset cookie
Found 7 or 8 "test messages"
Test messages, and Mudcat fixed threads disappeared.
My last post to new "New Firefox" thread disappeared.

All seems to be working okay now. (?)

(preview worked for this post)

I am showing 90 PM's. Shouldn't be anywhere near that, plus the names have reverted to older names i.e. Peace is Brucie again.

Man, this thing is cruising in high speed. I love that the chrono order is restored. I just went back and reread what I consider to be Mudcat's original great thread, that being the Spancil Hill thread. It is nice to see it all back the way it should be.

Search seems to working much quicker.

BTW, Max, I really enjoyed cruising on your sites today while the Cat was down. Fun stuff.

I took a look around, and everything seems to be copasetic. I looked at several databases, and didn't see any duplicate entries. The SuperSearch Index hasn't been updated, but I know that's coming. I've heard from one member whose user name was changed back to what it was a long time ago, so I fixed that for her.
Nice work, Max. I know it wasn't an easy job.

Not only is the chrono back on track but when you search, you can click on the message and get the RIGHT message instead of something off another thread!!!!

Life is good.......Or maybe just Penn State kicking the crap out of Purdue got Max in a happy mood.

Thanks Max.....(and note that OSU buried Minnesota)

It appeared as if Mudcat had been hijacked. Everytime I tried to access it I got automaticaly forwarded into a My Space site for a musical group called The Kazoo Repair Factory. Their music was acceptable but not good enough to be booked into my house concert series.

That group, Rabbi, is one of the ones that Max is in. Max is the owner of this site. He just rerouted Mudcat hits to it while he updated software.

As above for PMs - delete one and the count gets corrected (I just did it). If all your PMs are too important to delete, either paste one out and save it as a word document or similar, then do as above, or get a stooge to sent you a trivial PM and then do as above.

Subject: RE: Whats Up With Mudcat
From: Doug Chadwick

A thread that was working its way down the page has disappeared from the list on the Lyrics & Knowledge page. I can find it in my list of posted thread messages, and so can identify the time of the last posting. When I check back on the main list, I can find threads either side of it but not the one I'm looking for.

I wasn't receiving any response, so I'm not much fussed about this particular thread, but what else has disappeared? I seem to recall something about Northumbrian pipes that isn't showing now!

A bunch of very old PMs returned - the tee shirt mail from May and June 2005. I went from 6 PMs to a reported 54. When I deleted one, as suggested above, it went to 36. I did not count to see whether there were 54 or 37 before. The message count on traced threads went down. So something is still a little scrambled with an older version.

Thnax, Max, for working so hard for us.

This ain't funny. I now have all the pm's right back to 2003. I spent hours going through and deleting them (around 400 mainly to do with Market rasen Folk Club) Ah well I will just leave them there. Not doing it again.

Anyone still showing the wrong number of PMs, need not delete one they need, or get a mate to PM them just for deletion (as suggested above). The system will allow you to PM yourself. This can the be deleted to rectify the count.

Apparently not hijacked, deliberately redirected by Joe/Max/whoever while the real Mudcat was down. Not the best plan though - redirecting to a static page on another server somewhere explaining what was going on would be less confusing.

That wasn't a hijack, as I thought also -- it was a redirect while Max was implementing the upgrades.

Richie, maybe Max put the indexing of threads for SuperSearch on hold while he was changing stuff. The thread's only 6 days old, and maybe wasn't previously indexed. It comes up right away in the 'Filter'.

I got the corrupt cookie message and previously deleted/archived PMs too. All better now.

So I've put in a link to them for anyone who missed them this time.

I am just back from the kazoon repair centre, and had me muffler fitted...... lawks and grin ;-)

but am still in some sort of Bemudcat triangle and space time continumumunumumanum.

Have lost all me pms... and no longer even recognised me name (see threads... HELP it's all gone bonkers (pre coffee) and then a more sensible Tech: lost pms and no name type of thread (post coffee)...

still no pms and have started my account anew... feel like the newbie around here now... hey... perhaps I'm going backwards in age (I wish!)...

ho hum... well done though max... for battling on and sailing the big boat mudcat through it's latest storm...

need coffee... need a rest, am orf now.

Redirecting to the Kazoo and Tambourine Repair Company was NOT fun. Being part of MurdochSpace I wouldn't have knowingly followed a link to it, and when I got there it took forever to load (as all pages on MurdochSpace do with the browser I normally use).
