Mornin Ross, despite all the warnings, have you ever met anyone who's arm has been broken by a swan, ........... and everytime you go mooching around in an overgrown garden it is guaranteed you will find a bouncy ball? Thats todays useless information.

Wise words indeed - those townies don't know what us country folk have to put up with

I've learnt Kung Fu to thwart those Swans - fowl play version

I always say 'take me to your Leda' (she's always depicted as being quite dishy like) - but they never do

The swans swarm on top of the bus shelter on the path to the fish & chip shop - they are codless creatures

Most people think I'm full of balls

What shall we do this afternoon Mummy?

Eh up there chuck, I'm not yer mummy but we could go to the pub, I can find it now that the fog has lifted! Couldn't see a thing yesterday. Now, isn't it a fact that triangular sandwiches taste better than square ones and at the end of every party there is always a girl crying. Your sense of humor is only slightly worse than mine.

Nasty cast of road rage on me 'oss, should that be horse rage. Two young men in tarted up Mini's with no exhaust thought it would be a good idea to race up behind us revvin their engines and spinning their tyres and blowin their horns. Red took exception and freaked, pulled the reins out of my hands and my shoulder (the one I had repaired last year) took the strain - or not.

The King Harry was very good last night

It was a really electric night - 30 people jammed in a small room

Lots of great music

Congratulations to Southend fans everywhere

It's open mic tonight at the Bull - all styles occur

Sometimes we don't have a mic

If you can't make it - Bedford folk club has a do on at Daley's club in Bedford tonight

And someone called Martin Carthy is on at the Orange Tree in Baldock - didn't he sing white christmas

Did you know ................

The most painful household incident is wearing socks and stepping on an upturned plug.
Its impossible to look cool whilst picking up a Frisbee.
And last but not least, there's no panic like the panic you momentarily feel when you've got your hand or head stuck in something.

Catching ones willy in a zip causes panic

Now go back to sleep

I'm finished for the day - I'm off down the guitar shop to buy me some strings

Then I'm going to cut down a tree

Ross - when you've bought your guitar strings you don't need to cut down a tree, you can buy the wood to make your guitar, from a timber merchant.

Well it was pretty busy, but not as packed as it has been once or twice in the past. Strangely, there was a whole row of 5 or 6 chairs empty until the interval. No idea what was wrong with them, they looked OK to me. I didn't request the Wild Rover so I've no idea if he can play it or not (?). It would probably sound odd in that strange tuning of his, anyway.

Here is a message from Theo Thomas:

FRIDAY 24th NOVEMBER 2006 - FLORIDA

'Florida adopt a confident, bold and brassy persona, with trumpet, flugelhorn and sax adding to their already deeply impressive sound' - Rock 'n Reel
'Those of us who have ranted and raved to their brazen driving rhythms will know why they are being booked at more and more bops…Florida get better every time I hear them…' Folk Roots
'Florida have the confidence and musicianship to feature trumpet and saxophone as front line melody instruments' Shire Folk

Just a few examples of what the Folk Press say about this impressive and experience ceilidh band, who will be the guest band at Hitchin's Unicorn Ceilidh at Hitchin Town Hall on Friday 24th November.
Fronting the band will be the ever-ebullient caller GORDON POTTS, back again after a storming night in September. He is one of the country's top callers, after all, so it seems right we should invite him back!

The interval entertainment this month is from RAINMAKERS – internationally-costumed dancers displaying traditional and contemporary folk dances from all over the world, many to tunes with odd time signatures!

Just a few tickets are now left for our grand New Year's Eve 'BIG CEILIDH' – get there early to secure yours!

Doors open at 7.30 for an 8.00 p.m. start, with an 11.30 p.m. finish – entry is only £7.50 for adults and £4 for children under 14. Tickets are available at the door, or in advance from 01582 733113 / 724261

There's also a real ale bar, with a selection from the Potton Brewery, and soft drinks.

I missed going to Ashwell today.

I popped over to the Winterfolk there a couple of times this weekend. (Popped is probably wishful thinking for the first visit, via Biggleswade, forgetting route).

I learnt about song-writing from George P, met Hilary for the first time and got some sound advice from Martin on my accordian playing and how to avoid backache.

I heard lots of traditional songs and recognised few. But sang along anyway - it was that kind of a do.

Meanwhile my son's friend's mother was busy making him a cake for his 18th birthday! I offered to write him a song, but he wasn't too keen.

No guilty working guitar-learning mother-syndrome for me.

Very good

In the paper yesterday - Church notice

'Donations wanted to cripple children'

'All those young woman wishing to be young mothers - please meet the vicar in the vestry on tuesday evenings'

Did you know a corner in brickwork is called a quoin; the long face of a brick - a stretcher; the short face - a header; the hollow bit on top - a frog; those funny bits on the corner of a building holding up the roof - a corbel

I wish I had me elbows immersed in a meeting - easy life

First set of minutes completed, 12 pages of shorthand. 1 down 3 to go, and they say women talk. The pub seems a long way off.

My husband does bricks - you have dutch ones as well if I remember correctly.

Leave the ploughmen alone - I used to be a shorthand typist, but I had to give it up cos I couldn't get close enough to the typewriter (remember them?)

Yes - the Flems are very into bricks

The way you knit bricks together/the pattern of headers and stretchers have names

There is a Flemish bond - used to be very popular (alternate headers/stretchers in every row)

English bond is a row of headers/then row of stretchers

Brook Bond - a type of tea - I used to work in the factory in Redbourn in the 70's before Unilever liquidated them

At the height of the gale, the harbourmaster radioed a coastguard and asked him to estimate the wind speed. He replied he was sorry, but he didn't have a gauge. However, if it was any help, the wind had just blown his Land Rover off the cliff.

Good old internet.

I overheard you talking about fairies last night and it reminded me I hadn't set the tape for Torchwood. So I phoned home quick.

I have just watched it and been wracking my brain over who 'Mary' was in another programme. Found on the net she was Janey Harper - My family.

What did we do before the web and mobile phones?

When Torchwood comes to Barton, will I be able to transport home and avoid drink/driving problems?

Sorry - the 'you' in previous thread was to Ross.
If you are wearing your pendant, you will know that anyway, 'cos you can read my mind.

Cheers Cathy - I suspected what you were thinking as what I thought you thought about what you wrote and implied with unmitigated aforethought - cheers for your support last night

I lost it a bit but managed to contain the blast

I thought Torchwood was based on life in Barton

On a completely different note - ha note get it, joke ??, anyway, at 12.00noon today I ordered my new registration plates for my car, I've just received an e.mail to say that they've now despatched them, first class post. How's that for service, if only everything in life was so efficient.

crikey - how frightfully posh - or are they for dashing off petrol forecourts

Have you got PA1

Calm down Cathy

Jasper Carrot said he was stopped once, whilst driving in America and the copper congratulated him on having so many endorsements

Sun joke today; wife says of her husband - he is like the sea

Wild, reckless and makes me sick

No, not really posh. Bought the monster with a private plate already on it, but never really wanted it so I've sold it. Now DVLA have found me his original registration plate.

Dashing off garage forecourts, never thought of that!

Sounds good - there's a lot of money in plates

I don't like these new area number plates because when you drive any distance; it's obvious your not a local

When you park in London, it's almost a sign to local kids to rip off your aerial

Theres a villain in the Archers called Ross - he has just chucked the beautiful Helen Archer - the cad

We play a game where you have to make up a word using letters and numbers to make a number plate if you know what I mean, like ANN1E, then you have to guess what the price is on the DVLA web site. Yeh sad, I know.

Well - what can I say

Is it possible to develop an opera from a number plate?

I sometimes see words - like if its TFM - I think transformation

How are your shorthand skill?

Guess what - I'm measuring brickwork - flats today

But Helen's an Archer

Their gene pool can be traced back to the Greek Gods themselves

How can it be - cruel world

Was I right to chuck her (damn!)

Helens got a brother (Tom) who's into sausages with Brenda and lost his brother in a tragic tractor accident after he (the brother) made it up with Haley who now lives with Roy who racially attacked Usha who is now bonking the vicar

I do words, TFMShorthand's good, boss dictates over the phone while he's out which makes for very interesting reading when I dont quite catch what he said.
You must have a really long tape measure and ladder to measure brick in flats.

Blimey, I just saved this thread from falling off the bottom of the list. Don't say I never do anything to help you lot. You must watch these points, as Jordan said to the Archbishop of Canterbury last week.

What sport does your auntie play, Ross? Or does she just bet on the horses?
