BS: Bring back the *real* commercials...

I'm so sick of political commercials that I could puke... I hate the ones for the guys I don't like as much as the ones for the guys I like... It's sickenin'... Down right sickenin'...

And havin' the Washington, D.C. channels come from the sattilate I get both Virginia and Maryland... It's intolerabe to watch anything, especially the evening news, on the major networks... Not that I watch much but just an hour's worth of news you get 20 to 25 political attack ads...

Enough is enough...

Bring back Babo, or Mr Kleen, or Ipana...

Geeze...

"Bannockcorep" shows up on our "who is it" display at least three times each day. That's the Bannock County Republican Party, and the folks calling aren't even there -- it's all recordings.

My wife was going to stop and give them a piece of her mind today, but forgot. Besides, she said she didn't want to get dirty.

A bunch from California sued Indiana over the law in Indiana about "you gotta have people IN Indiana making calls TO people who live in Indiana." Claimed it was denying freedom of speech. The Indiana Supreme Court upheld the law just a couple weeks ago. YAY FOR INDY!! If they are gonna make the calls, at least employ somebody local!

The worst part is that the ads (and the so-called debates) don't really communicate the candidate's position.

And the next time I hear someone say "family values" or "traditional family values" I'm gonna ask for a definition. Hell, the Census Bureau says that only 49.1% of the couples living together in the US of A are now legally married....

Today on All Thing's Considered there was a pretty funny segment: an interview with two of the voices (literally) behind the ads. Click

"Melissa Blocks talks with voice-over artists Dennis Steele and Scott Sanders about how to make a threatening voice for a political ad."

Actually on that linked page, you may want to click the "Listen" button at the top and turn off your monitor: they also have a whole set of video clips of various ads, for those who can't get enough, I guess!

It can be funny.

During the runup to the last election I answered my phone and after a pause a female voice came on, saying This is Lisa Murkowski. I would appreciate your vote...

Knowing I wouldn't vote for her in any way or in any how, I gently replaced the phone in its bed.

It rang again. I picked it up. The voice says, This is still Lisa Murkowski.

'Twas a lovely lady that Mudcatters know.

I'm so glad those ads are over with today. The part that gets me is the tag-line everyone has added in the last couple of years.."I'm so-and-so and I approve this message". Well of course you bloody well do, it came from your campaign people and makes you look GOOD!

Hey - now we can start planning for the 2008 megalottery. That will make todays festivities look like a quiet afternoon by the pond.

Here's one that evidently worked, from the winners in the Nicaraguan elections. Nice music.

"I'm Bill Smith and I'd like to be your Representative. Even though I now live in a very upscale neighborhood in Alexandria, my roots and heart are right here in the 13th District. I remember those who I grew up with and I've taken to heart the values I learned: greed, lust, vanity, and all. And I wouldn't think of raising taxes, because me and my neighbors have been taxed enough and now it's your turn. District 13 has gorgeous scenery, clean air, and sparkling clean streams -- and I've arranged for developers to give you the best possible price for your property. You'll be proud to see the condos and mega-mansions rising where your miserable hovels once were.

Bill Smith -- Looking Out For Number One!"

It was impossible to listen to commercial radio over the past few weeks without a slew of that political junk.

I hang up all of those calls that come in with the slight pause before the recording kicks in. Nearly hung up on a couple of people that way, but I heard their voice as I was moving the phone back to the cradle.

My vote here won't change anything, Dubya is too deeply entrenched. But my vote can directly cancel out Dubya's vote. So there!

Living halfway between NYC and Philly, I get TV ads for Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. There are no other ads, simply because there's no room. The mute button on my remote is worn out. An article in the paper showed how both guys running for senator have twisted the truth in their ads, so I'm not voting for either one. (The other choices are jokes). So, I'm not voting this year.

On the plus side, a town in South Jersey has two people named Ball and a guy named Cox running on the same ticket. I assume that there are no signs advertising Cox and Balls. Too bad.

Oh, I have family in South Jersey. I'll have to ask my uncle about that . . .

Yeah, those credit-card ads with the pseudo-medieval guys are starting to look funnier and funnier by comparison.
