08 Nov 06 - 07:29 PM (#1879642) Subject: The Democrats regain the House From: Stephen L. Rich The Democrats once again control the House of Representatives. Let there be no shouts of joy or dancing in the streets. Very little will change. Remember that these are the same spineless characters who have, for the most part, refused to speak out or take action against the incrimental advance of facism by the neo-con. Whenever a rare voice, like that of Russ Feingold, has been heard the rest of the Democrats hid under the benches hoping that the voice would go away and stop calling attention to them. While they are promising a "new direction", the direction is most likely to be sideways. Stephen Lee Rich |

If Bush & his VP get impeached that'll even make me more peachy cause we'll have a President Nancy. More joy. If they don't perform now though, then it's hell's gate in 2008. Barry |

Of course, I'm a progessive left indie, so my whole attitude towards the election results is "I'll believe the Democrats will bring true, meaningful change to Washington and the course our nation is on when I see it." Not planning on holding my breath... |

08 Nov 06 - 09:54 PM (#1879790) Subject: RE: The Democrats regain the House From: 282RA The dems have been pretty spineless but let's face it: they didn't have a whole lot of public support either. For a while there, you couldn't publicly come out against the war without the public going apeshit on you. Now the dems have a mandate from the people and they're going to act on it. What that means in 2 years is irrelevant to me. I just want to see the bastards who got us into htis mess punished. We'll worry about 2008 in 2008. |

However, it does seem that a verdict of "useless" on Pelosi et al. is a bit premature--since they haven't yet taken office. |

09 Nov 06 - 11:57 PM (#1880905) Subject: RE: The Democrats regain the House From: GUEST Both major parties are owned by the same corporations via campaign contributions, so naturally the agenda is going to be pretty much the same, regardless who gets elected. |

10 Nov 06 - 01:46 AM (#1880944) Subject: RE: The Democrats regain the House From: Stephen L. Rich I'm not willing to say "useless" yet either. However, let us not look for any immediate or sweeping changes. Pelosi has already taken impeachment off of the table. She's most likely to bend to the centrists. The good news is that having the Democrats in charge of Capitol Hill restores some semblance of Separation of powers. While I'm not thrilled with the idea of going sideways, it beat the heck out of rolling downhill backwards as we have been doing for the last six years. All that I'm advising is that we shouldn't get our hopes up too high. Stephen Lee Rich |

10 Nov 06 - 12:32 PM (#1882320) Subject: RE: The Democrats regain the House From: Ron Davies If you want Democrats elected in 2008, the way to go is co-operation--yes even with Republicans from time to time -- (as for instance in immigration reform)--rather than gridlock. Point-scoring, and revenge, and gridlock will not win any fans in 2008. Having said that, it does seem a deep investigation into the contradictions between what the Bush regime told the country in the run-up to the Iraq war and what the intelligence community knew is in order. Exactly what information was ignored? Let everybody know exactly how the propaganda campaign worked. If nothing else, it can be a warning to the public for the future. |
