08 Nov 06 - 09:13 PM (#1879740) Subject: BS: Dems Take Senate From: 282RA A few minutes ago, the AP and NBC News have announnced that Jim Webb is the winner of the Virginia Senate Race giving democrats. As I watch, Joe Scarborough, a Republican, is giving it to Webb. Although it still isn't official, it is already decided. Webb has won. There are 49 dems, 49 pubs, and 2 indies. The indies--one of them a socialist--have indicated they will caucus with the dems essentially making it a 51-49 Senate in favor of the dems. Allen's camp have hinted that he will likely concede as early as tomorrow. What a stunning reversal literally overnight! And while the dems are still sort of pinching themselves and still be hesitant to talk too strongly about investigating the scandals, the fraud and the rationale for war there is little doubt that they will do so. They have to. To ignore it would be criminal in and of itself and the election itself is the people telling them, "You'd damned well better!" And they will. They have to. There's too much there to ignore and they wouldn't be doing their jobs if they ignore it. Bush is nervous and he needs to be nervous. Long time in coming. God, it feels good to hear the conservative bitching and moaning for a change. |

08 Nov 06 - 09:21 PM (#1879751) Subject: RE: BS: Dems Take Senate From: Rapparee The true conservatives, the ones of the sort of Barry Goldwater, aren't moaning and gnashing their teeth. It's the neo-conservatives, the divisive ones, the Gingriches, who are doing so. And the Democrats CANNOT ignore the voters, not this time. Perhaps it's true: the country is waking up. I hope so, for there is very little time left before the hubris of the US turns it into a second-rate nation. |

If it comes out as a tie, the Republicans win because the Vice President is President of the Senate and casts the deciding vote in the case of a tie. |

08 Nov 06 - 09:59 PM (#1879798) Subject: RE: BS: Dems Take Senate From: 282RA One more time: the two indie senators will caucus with the dems. Therefore there almost no chance of a tie. It's 51-49 in favor of the dems. The VP vote won't mean anything. It won't even happen because there won't be a tie. |

He is still in Congress largely due to conservative votes so he will have to split on some issues but I'm sure that has been discussed already. He wants back in and the dems would like to take him back in. What drove them apart--Iraq--is kind of a moot point now. The public has spoken on that. So I think he and the dem party are kind of kissing and making up. |

09 Nov 06 - 08:56 AM (#1880100) Subject: RE: BS: Dems Take Senate From: Bobert I haven't seen where Allen has thrown in the towell, Barry, but have noted that Webb has declared victory... According to CNN this morbning the Allen camp is still weighin' it's options... From a purely political viewpoint, if Allen asks for a recount and the numbers come back the same, which is likely considering the recent recount of Virginia's Attorney General race, then this will paint Allen as crybaby and a double-loser and kill off any future plans to run again... Either way, glad to see the Bush-clone on the way out... He had 6 years to show what he's made of and did absolutely nuthin' but rubber stamp Bush... Bobert |

09 Nov 06 - 09:32 PM (#1880810) Subject: RE: BS: Dems Take Senate From: Bobert Yeah, TIA, but on the other hand, while the election may have broken Bush's stranglehold on the US, the Dems ain't like saviors ridin' in on white horses... GUEST, while perhaps at tad theaterical, has voiced some real concerns that will settle in after the euphoria about the "new bosses"... I have these same naggin' concerns... Yeah, I am more hopefull than I would have been if the Bushites had prevailed but I also understand that policy is driven by money and the average Joe ain't got the money to keep the machine going on a full time basis... Fritz Hollinsworth, a former SC Senator, told "60 Minutes" that he had to raise $8000 a day to finance his next campaign just to stay in office... Hmmmmmmm??? So average Joe giving his 50 bucks here and there ain't gonna cut it and so, yeah... ...I'm concerned... Where's the $$$ gonna come from an at what cost??? Ahhhhhh, not to be throwin' a wet towell on the celebration but... Bobert |

If we just sit back than, yeah, that very well may happen... ...but we gotta light a big fire under the Democratic Party so they know that they have to perform on a lotta different levels... I've allready sent my first letter to Senator-elect, Jim Webb... And I'd emplore every progressive to take a half an hour away from Mudact and do the same... Democracy is only as good as all those involved in it... Bobert |

09 Nov 06 - 10:16 PM (#1880848) Subject: RE: BS: Dems Take Senate From: 282RA I really don't care who is president in 2008. Just as long as the neocons and the evangelicals have seen their day. Anyone else in comparison is normal. Some might be sweating that the dems might lose control in 2 years. Yeah, maybe. So what? As long as they roll a few heads over the fraud in Iraq and the run-up to the war and either dismantle Bush's policies or modify them until they are something palatable. The people have finally spoken to the neocons and CRWs: "Say goodnight, Dick." Beautiful. |
