Lyr Req: I don't wanna play in your yard!

Need completed words to a song passed down from my great-grandmother through all of us, starts like this:

"Once there lived side by side, two little maids,
Used to dress just alike, hair down in braids.
Blue gingham pinafores, stockings of red,
Little sunbonnets tied 'round each little head.

When school was over, secrets they'd tell
Wandering arm-in-arm, down by the well
One day a quarrel came, hot tears were shed.
"You can't play in my yard!" and the other said,

CHORUS: "I don't wanna play in your yard, I don't love you anymore!
You'll be sorry when you see me, sliding down my cellar door!
You can't holler down my rainbarrel, you can't climb my apple tree!
I don't wanna play in your yard, if you won't be good to me!"

There's another verse, followed by the chorus again, and I can't remember the words. Help!

Kat, talk about coincidences: i go by katlaughing, but usually abbreviate my signings to kat AND I've brought this song up before in another thread. Please read on...

I sang this in a grade school follies with my best girlfriend, Muffy Fulton, complete with pinafores our mother's made and long braids. At one time, on the "lighten up" thread, I jokingly suggested we name it the official song of the mudcat! Anyway, if you follow the Mudcat links to the Lester B. Levy collection at Johns Hopkins, go to the bibliographic search and type in the title, "I don't want to play in your yard", you will find the sheet music with lyrics.

My parents had the original sheet music, passed down from one of their paretns. It was one of my very favourite songs when growing up. If you have trouble finding it, go to the "Can we lighten up" thread and look at one of my earlier postings, I listed the box #, etc. there.

Thanks for bringing this to mind, again. It is a great old song.
