Which autobiography?

Which musician/singer's autobiography would you most like to read ( one that doesn't already exist) - and why? I'll go first! Dave Swarbrick's would be interesting - all the different bands, and musically characters that he's encountered. It would/should be fascinating.

Well Art Thieme has made some promises ...

I'd hope he's still workin' on it.

Some of us have found fairly recently that he's been a bit weirder more versatile than some of his jokes, and WE WANT TO KNOW!

Mike Seeger

Not so much for the information about Mike as for stories about all the people he collected from.

Johnny Cunningham - if only half of the stories told about him by Phil are true :)

And so would Stan Hugill's. He came to NZ when he was a sailor! At least, that's what he told me back in 1972.

Among many others (and I've read a few) I'd love to read one by Burl Ives (Did he do one, by any chance, or is their a biog of him already written that I've missed ?

As a rule, I don't read books by musicians, but I think I'd read one by Paul Simon if he wrote one.

Can I recommend an existing book, Judith Tick's book of Ruth Crawford Seeger, Peggy's mother.

MacColl's book "Journeyman" misses a lot out, as Peggy says in the introduction.

I'm sure I read Burl Ives' one years ago. Don't remember what it was called.

I found it - 'Wayfaring Stranger' written by Burl himself.

Woody Guthrie. "Bound for Glory" was about his early years, but I'd love to read about his later years: his views on his times and the people he met. "Bound for Glory" is well worth a read, by the way. Excellent writer.

I've read the books by Pamela Stephenson on Billy Connolly and they are well worth it. The books are humourous, moving and packed with odd bits of silliness, and the reason why he dyed his beard purple!

And Pete Seeger's one as well. If I remember correctly it's called "How can I keep from singing". It was in the local library.
I used to have a copy of "Bound for Glory" but I gave it away - to a Woody fan.

Penguin Egg, get Ed Cray's recent biography of Woody "Ramblin' Man". Not only a very good read, but more accurate than Woody was in "Bound for Glory".

I'd like to read Louis Killan's or Norma Waterson's.
