The latest edition of Living Tradition contains details of guests at Celtic Connections 2007.

Will post details when I am e-mailed by the CC machine :0)

The website went live a couple of weeks ago, although the information on it was a bit sketchy at the time. It's better now.

And yes, I am still waiting for my email telling me that the guest list has been published.

Would be good to have a lttle more meat in Living Tradition; it's getting to be very like Irish Music Magazine; all gloss and no content.

It would be nice if England had an equivalent of either magazine as we have nothing done here.

What about English Dance and Song? It's not only devoted to English tradition, but has been focusing recently on the younger end of the folk scene, like those coming out of the Newcastle degree course. It also does what neither Living Tradition or Froots does, in that it explores the sources of a lot of "traditional" folk activity, while also trying to make the connections between those roots and stuff that's happening now. I think context is vital when exploring traditional culture, and there aren't very many publications that offer that kind of context in an easy to digest and accessible format.

For me, this is key. You can read CD reviews, festival listings or another interview with Spiers and Boden anywhere, but EDS is doing something quite different and, in my opinion, both important and interesting.

There is Folk on Tap - the folk magazine for the South Coast issued 4 times per year.

Folk North West covers that area although we do not subscribe to it we get copies at the Fylde Folk Festival

Like Ruth above we enjoy the EFDSS Magazines for content and diversity.

EDS? What and where (and can we have it without the "D"?

You get it free with EFDSS membership, but you can buy it at festivals amd folk events around the country more and more these days.

It's quarterly, rather than monthly, but a good read!

The balance between dance and song is good. There's a regular feature called The Singer Song and Source, where they look at a contemporary version of a traditional song, and also look at the source/singer it was collected from and the different versions of it. Really interesting stuff.

Oh, I forgot:

http://eds.efdss.org/

they put sound files on line for each issue, so if there are references to traditional singers and songs - stuff that's really hard to get hold of - they'll often put them online so you can hear them firsthand, not just read about them.

You should try FOLK LEADS>>>this is a new magazine now reached issue 5..this is devoted to articles from a wide selection of the famous and not famous who write about the background and context of folk songs; traditions ;instruments ;music;songs with music; dancing etc. there are no reviews or gig listings so the magazines don't date..you could collect them all. Issue 1 and 3 are sold out/out of print but issue 4 and 5 are currently available. This is excellent value at £2...some 67 pages with the only adverts (for music shops )being on the covers.
Hobgoblin ,The Music Room and PJ Music keep copies..otherwise they can be got through the GroveFolk club, Leeds website...and various folk clubs/festivals where the distibutors happen to be.
