From: Hawker I took my Grade 1 harp exam with the Associated Board of The Royal Schools Of Music last week ans not only did I pass but I got a distinction! And an excellent mark ( 18 out of 20) for my sight reading test - The one bit I thought (and my tutor thought) I would not do so well on. I am absolutely delightedand just thought I'd share my excitement with you all Skipping off to bed happy Lucy |

From: Hawker Splott, I think I'll leave the harping at Miskin to Harriet, I've still got a long way to go 'till I get to her standard! (Though Kevin did say I could bring the cheesegrater with me this year) as for blues harp - well.... I can make a noise on one of them but I'll keep that for my own private entertainment - unless there is a torture session organised! Cheers Lucy PS yes slept like a log |

30 Nov 06 - 06:16 PM (#1896949) Subject: RE: Yippeee I passed! with distinction! From: Hawker Thanks all. Certificate arrived today with examiners comments. I was some chuffed with how calm I must have appeared. In my violin exams, my hands shook so much that I had real trouble playing well, but with the harp, I seemed to be more in control. Perhaps its just 'cos I enjoy playing it so much. Harriet Earis has a lot to answer for! I lived a stones throw away from my harp teacher for 3 years, socialised with both her and her husband, went to thier concerts and never even had a whiff of a desire to have a go, then Harriet played at Miskin and I was wowed. At my teachers next concert, I plucked up (ha ha) the courage to have a go - and bang! I was hooked! Had a lesson this evening and I have been let loose on some proper tunes now rather than BORING namby pamby beginner books, though I have been given some finger excercises that my brain is not dealing with at all! Once again, I implore anybody thinking of starting to play an instrument and maybe thinking they are past their learn-by date, you are NEVER too old to learn, you may never make it to being the worlds greatest player, but the enjoyment you'll get out of it surpasses anything. I had a mild TIA (transient Ischaemic Attack - mini stroke)in the summer and believe playing has helped me recover. - And you dont need to take lessons or exams either, I just like to push myself - it gives me an incentive and something to aim for. Anyone in Cornwall on 16th December can see me and the Harp ensemble I play with - Harpers Bizarre - playing Christmas music at Cotehele House at 11 am - 12.30p.m. and 2- 3 p.m. in The Great Hall there (where the amazing Huge Garland is!) - I'll be the one at the back doing a lot of miming! Tee Hee Cheers, Lucy |
