01 Dec 06 - 11:25 PM (#1898025) Subject: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Donuel I drove all over DC, down to S Carolina and I did not see 1 Bush Cheney bumper sticker. I did see Kerry bumper stickers but not a Bush in sight. IT takes a lot of effort to get those things off so it seems people have worked mighty hard scraping their bumpers in the last few months. |

02 Dec 06 - 07:57 AM (#1898216) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Jeri WARNING: thread takeover by Ron Davies being attempted!!! It's way to early in this one to bring France into it! On topic: I still see Bush/Cheney bumper stickers. They're usually on trucks and SUVs that don't know when to get off the road they're on and never turn left. There are still people in this country who believe the whole world would not have been in better shape had a less vengeful duo been in office. |

02 Dec 06 - 08:49 AM (#1898241) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Jeri I didn't miss it- I just figure most people would have ignored it. The smile didn't translate, either, but maybe I should stop trying to see the humor in people driving threads down tangenital paths. Thanks for the 'typical care' comment, though. I thought I missed seeing you at the Getaway, but now that I know what you think of me, maybe it was a good thing. |

Slag brought it up not Ron, Ron just vocalised it. Maybe slag's from New Zealand, in which case it would be understandable (given frances history of nuclear testing in the south pacific). What would "no spin" be refferring to. |

02 Dec 06 - 09:34 AM (#1898257) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Jeri I keep forgetting that on Mudcat, the topic that pisses people off most is the one that wins. I also keep forgetting that if I'm going to talk about politics, I'd be better off doing it face to face and not on some blog site. Sorry - please carry on Jeri-free. |

02 Dec 06 - 10:01 AM (#1898272) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Azizi Also off topic: lox, With regard to your question "What would "no spin" be referring to", see this definition of 'spin': 7. To provide an interpretation of (a statement or event, for example), especially in a way meant to sway public opinion: "a messenger who spins bogus research into a vile theology of hatred" (William A. Henry III). http://www.answers.com/topic/spin The phrase "no spin" has come to be associated with American televison Fox News' commentator Bill O'Reilly. O'Reilly calls his show-The O'Reilly Factor- a "no spin" zone. But some people-including me-think that all he does is [provide] spin-to the far right. |

03 Dec 06 - 09:08 PM (#1899258) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Ron Davies Jeri--Sincerely, I did miss seeing you at Getaway this year. I really enjoyed hearing you last year. My crazy schedule this year meant I could only be there at night. But on Mudcat, we all create a record based on what we say. People remember-- and judge based on past performance. And indirect humor often does not come across. |

Driving's boring and they provide some comic relief. And France should be boycotted because the French have a monopoly on silent letters and refuse to share them. |

From: Liz the Squeak I'm so glad I'm in the UK... bumper stickers (or rear window stickers rather) seem to be in the 'amuse' vein, rather than 'really piss off the person in the car behind you who may have different politics/lifestyle/alliegance to football teams ' genre. Although, I like the idea of 'Voldemort in 2008'.. he couldn't make a worse job could he? LTS |

There are no "simple" or "quick" answers to your questions RD et al. It really gets down to basic philosophies. For now I'll just say that, isn't it funny how twisted and slanted the other guy's point of view looks to our own straight clear-thinking point of view??? Yes I'm serious but not so that I can't take a step back and try to see a bigger picture. France has a checkered past (as does England with whom we fought 2 wars) as an ally of the US. More later. Stay tuned!!! |

04 Dec 06 - 09:27 PM (#1900174) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: McGrath of Harlow Apparently most Americans now see the Iraq War as a disaster, regardless of what they think should be done now. So shouldn't they now be saying "Thank You" to France for trying to keep them from rushing in? "Boycott the UK", as a way of punishing the country whose Government encouraged Bush's folly, might be a but unfair, like blaming a barman for the stuff a drunk does, but it would make a lot more sense than being cross with France for getting it right, and telling him the bar was closed. |

05 Dec 06 - 01:18 AM (#1900249) Subject: RE: BS: They ALL disappeared! From: Slag Yup. Nuke Liechtenstein! Seriously, I think all sane folks would agree that Saddam Hussien is an evil and murderous man who siezed every opprotunity to take by force what he wanted including Kuwait. Don't forget his war with Iran and his stated designs on Saudi oil fields. That France was quite cozied up with Saddam and financially invested in his regime is now obvious to all but the wilfully blind. Had there been European solidarity against his outlaw regime and swift and meaningful diplomatic and financial pressure brought to bear (as opposed to 17 meaningless, gutless UN resolutions) Hussien might have been toppled with less blood and violence. Frankly this topic has been discussed ad nauseum in other threads and I don't think anyone's been converted on either side of the issue, have they? Have you? In like manner, I don't think my boycott of France will impact that nation with any great consequence. If Mr. O'Reilly's entire viewing audience faithfully boycotted France the results would be miniscule. Its just my way of saying "Thanks a lot France, for standing with us as we have stood with you in the past." The original chum for this thread was about Bush/Cheney bumper stickers, remember? Maybe my next bumper sticker will read "Space Available for the Next Rant." |
