02 Dec 06 - 04:44 PM (#1898546) Subject: Trio of micro-songs by CapriUni From: CapriUni Here are three "micro-songs" that I wrote ages and semi-ages ago, that I only just realized this morning formed a complete triad, of Sun, Moon, and Earth, and they've been knocking around in the shoebox of my brain for a while, now. I only just recreated them, and figured out their proper dots this afternoon. I knew the first two were a pair, because I composed them as such (on a clunky little music notation tutoring program for the Windows 3.1 operating system). They were both inspired by the book O Mother Sun! Rediscovering the Cosmic Feminie by Patricia Monaghan, about how, in Bronze Age Europe and Asia, the solar deity was a goddess (associated with spinning and weaving--the rays of the sun's light being her yarn, and the Earth being her spindle.), and the lunar diety was a god. Mother Sun (written, I figure, around 1998, or '99) Mother Sun, spin, once more, your golden light! Weave, anew, this world so bright! Fill our hearts with sweet delight Through this day, and all the night! X:1 T:Mother Sun Q:1/4=120 K:C G2 C2 E4|F2 E D3 C2|B,2 C D4 z| w:Moth-er Sun,|spin, once more your|gold-en light| C2 E2 G2 F2|D2 E2 C4|G2 C2 E2 E2| w:Weave, a-new, this|world so bright|fill our hearts with| G3 C2 D3|C2 E2 G4|F D2 B,2 C3|] w:sweet de-light|through this day,|and all the night! ***** Ancient Father (written at the same time as Mother Sun) Ancient Father, Moon so bright, Sailing through the sacred night, Guide our oceans' currents deep. Lead our dreams, And watch our sleep. X:1 T:Father Moon Q:1/4=100 K:EbDor B2 D2 G2 E2|B,2 D2 E4|G2 A2 B2 G2|D2 E2 B,4| w:An-cient Fath-er,|Moon so bright,|sail-ing through the|sa-cred night,| B2 G2 A2 G2|D2 E2 G4|G2 E2 D2 A2|G2 D2 E4|] w:Guide our oc-eans'|cur-rents deep.|lead our dreams, and|watch our sleep. ***** I originally tried to write this third one as part of a three-part polyphonic chant; this first part was about the roots of the soul, the second part was meant to be about the body of the soul (linking it to the waters on the Earth's surface), and the third part was meant to about the wings of the sould (linking it to the stars). But no matter how I tried, I could not get the latter two parts to work at all. It wasn't until I woke up this morning with this going through my head, that I realized it really belonged with the two older songs, above. The lyrics were inspired by watching multiple nature and science shows about how much life on Earth is sustained by the molten rock in the planet's center. instead of the sun (did you know that there's as much microscopic life, pound for pound a mile or more beneath the Earth's surface as there is all life on the surface itself? That just blows my mind.) Earthlight (written after 2001, at least, but I can't be sure exactly when) Down, down, deep down, The heart of the Earth is glowing. Down, down deep down, The heart of the Earth is light. Down down, deep down, The roots of my soul, They grow deep down Into the heart of Her Light. X:1 T:Earthlight Q:1/4=100 K:Dm D4 D4|C4 D4|D D2 D D F2 D|C4 D2 z2| w:Down, down,|deep down|the heart of the Earth is|glow-ing.| D4 D4|C4 D4|D D2 D D F3|C2 D4 z2| w:Down, down,|deep down,|the heart of the Earth|is light.| A4 A4|G4 A4|A A2 A A c2 A|c4 G4| w:Down, down,|deep down,|the roots of my soul, they|grow deep| F4 F2 F2|E2 C6|C4 D4|D8|] w:down in-to|the heart|of Her|Light. To get a score (and a link to the midi) of each song, copy one set of bolded text at a time, and paste it into the text window at the Concertina.net's Tune-o-tron Converter, and click [submit]. |

I was thinking of that last song, especally, last night, when I was thinking about what things I'd most want to take back with me from my old home... And the one thing I could think of was the rocks.... You know you got it bad when you want to soothe yourself to sleep by cuddling a boulder... *eyeroll* Part of dealing with the grief is identifying it... Um... there's a Google ad at the bottom of this page, right now, for Mother Earth Ringtone. ... I didn't know She was in the telecom business! |

Here's what I remember of it: I guess She gets a round...:-> A boulder in bed might be a bit difficult, but I've got marble from CO and granite from the top of the Continental Divide outside on my front step and just found a polished agate from my childhood which is now on my bedside table, so I can relate to rocks! I hope you find some good ones, CU; ones which will give you a tangibe connection to the place you love so much. Take care, kat |
