Booker T Jones (Booker T & MGs) was born this day (11 December) [or Nov 12] in 1944.

What else is there to say. Happy Birthday Mr. Jones. If The MGs only recorded Green Onions they'd still be great.
PS In the UK cricket fans hear them all the time.

Yes, "Soul Limbo" is such a great track.

Do you remember when the BBC used a different version for a while? How dare they?!?! Such stupidity.

Well, John Kirkpatrick has been known to play Green Onions, if that's any help.

Born Nov 12, not December, 11.

The December 11 misinformation comes only from British people misreading a "11/12/1944" entry.

I do tend to be confined there permanently these days.

One of the pleasures of producing these (what have been described as obnoxous) threads is that I do not need to check any of the details - as I know there is someone who will do this for me and have a orgasm on the spot - should they find some detail to correct.

Another pleasure is finding out about people like Booker T and all the other interesting people who share birthadays.

I am staggered at how many names there are which are totally unknown to me - who are listed as composers.

What I want to know is: what does the 'T' stand for?

Booker T. and the MGs was the session band for Stax Records. They backed up all the great Memphis soul singers: Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Rufus and Carla Thomas, you name 'em. I heard them play with Otis Redding and it was a high point in my life. They were one helluva group.

A bit of trivia: for a time, Booker T. was Kris Kristofferson's brother-in-law. He was married to Priscilla Coolidge.
