Keep in mind that you're competing for street parking with the hordes... and the pedestrians. (I think the limit is one per license.) |

I did try and silence the waitress -- asked her to turn the radio down as I could not hear the music which she did but then the banging of the plates started...... Missed last month due to work, Adventure work, school event and a JR concert in Rockport. Yes Mary...there is another Rockport in Massachusetts. It was a very good session indeed. Nice to see that everyone was in good health and in good voice. We celebrated Christmas yesterday and were a bit late for the session. With this behind us we can look forward to a slower paced weekend ahead of us....right! Just finished an update of our Adventure restoration that will be posted this week...check out the website in a few days www.schooner-adventure.org Music this coming weekend and New Years for us. Hope to make Portland in January....it will be a good winter break and well needed. Mary....we will be expecting the same voyeur to be at the window this year. Kendall...we are thinking of you. The cook orders out & blasts the radio, time for her to cash in on her chips & toss her to the fishes. The cook's the one that starts banging plates when you ask to turn down the kitchen music. Mary, whats the date for your next concert, Deb Cowen, you say? Nice to see the Dorymates again (isn't it 2 mates per dory?). Peter what did the tropper stop you for in the first place or were you walking the street with the tomahawk in your hand? An axe is a tool, what you got there is a 2 1/2' long weapon used to cut flesh & bone not wood & that thing can be tossed too. And I found another site that said his day was Dec. 9th. St. JOHN ROBERTS One of the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales who was canonized in 1970. He was born at Rhiwgoch, Trawsfynydd in 1577, and was probably baptized at the St. Madryn's church in the village. It is mentioned that his family lived at either Gelli Goch or Tyddyn Gwladus. He was reared a Protestant and on the 26th February 1595/6 enlisted in St. Johns College, Oxford. He then travelled the continent and whilst in Paris turned Catholic. In 1599 he went to St. Benedict Abbey, Valladolid; he then went on to novitate at Santiago de Compostela, about the end of 1600. He joined the Benedictine faith and adopted then name Fray Juan de Mervinia, brother John from Merioneth. He was ordained and went out on the English mission on the 26th December 1602 - he was the first monk to return to England after Henry VIII closed the monasteries. He was four or five times detained by the authorities, but on each occasion following a short term in prison he was deported. During this period he made a name for himself in London for helping people who were suffering from the plague. He again returned but was arrested and convicted of high treason. He was executed by being hung, drawn and quartered at Tyburn, London on the 10 December 1610. St John was blessed on the 15th December 1929, and canonized on the 25th of October 1970. |

I found my copy of the Susann Palmer hurdy-gurdy book there - I am convinced that by the time I walked from the shop that gave me the info to the shop that actually had a copy, the price had doubled. I don't know who gave the Welsh their spelling, but it's far more phonetic than English - remember that "w" is a vowel with a "oo" sound. But there are enough native Welsh speakers on this forum who would explain it far better than I. (Reminder to self - must learn some Welsh chanteys). |

And was in the Black Lion Inn that provided such a scrumptious lunch, and ale? Whatever. I did find a mint copy of an early C. Fox Smith book there, LANCASHIRE HUNTING TALES AND OTHER MOORLAND LAYS (1909), that I didn't have. Unfortunately, few of the shops had computerized their inventories and one had to go through every shelf, which would have taken years to accomplish, to complete the search, and by that time inventories would be refilling in the previous shops...
