ter,

Go to the box in the upper right corner. Type if the word cannibals. You will see three songs listed. Check out the one that says The Darwinian Theory. See if that is it.

G'day ter,

I seem to remenber submitting a full version of this in a thread some time last year - you could try "Refresh Thread" - 365 (or start with 90) days and "cannibal" in the filter.

Thanks but still no help...
It starts:

I happened, boys, to make my way
To the cannibal islands one fine day,
And that is where I chose to stay,
Down in the cannibal islands. Chorus

We had oyster pudding with monkey sauce
And little boy stew for second course,
All stirred up in an old dead horse,
Down in the cannibal islands. Chorus

But that's all I know...
Would appreciate the rest...

Click here for another Cannibal thread. I think it mentions your song, Ter, but doesn't give the whole thing. Maybe it'll help, though.

The one I learned was:

The cannibal king with the big nose ring
Fell in love with the dusky maid
And every night in the pale moonlight
It would sound like this to me

Ah ump (kiss sound, twice)
Ah ump (kiss sound, twice)
Ah ump iddy ide ayaa
Etc. etc.

The years went by like one, two, three
And soon they had a fam-i-ly
And every night in the pale moonlight it would sound
Like this to me-e-e
Ah ump mama, ah ump papa
Etc.

... the years went by like 2, 3,4
And soon that family had some more
And every night...
Ah ump grandma, etc.

That's it! I knew I heard of this song before. I wasn't sure with those first few replies. The Wabash can-nibble.

Thanks catspaw. You silly goose. I got a good giggle out of that one.

sail...Thanks for posting those verses! I don't know if your words are what ter was looking for, but I learned the same song and since first reading this thread could only get as far as "Cannibal king with the big nose ring".

I just refreshed a thread, unfortunately called "Lyrics and music for...", that gives complete lyrics for the "kiss kiss" song and my best memory of the first verse and chorus of the "hokey pokey winky wong" song. Sorry, Ter, I know even less of it than your dad.

From: Alice

Ter, my grandmother taught this to my mother who taught it to me. These are the only verses I know.

KING OF THE CANNIBAL ISLANDS

chorus
Hokey Pokey Winky Wung,
Polly Makoo Kamoling Kung,
Hangery Wangery Chingery Ching,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

Have you heard my story of late,
For if you've not 'tis on my pate,
About a mighty potentate,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

chorus
Polly Makoo Kamoling Kung,
Hangery Wangery Chingery Ching,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

Woman pudding and baby sauce,
Little boy pie for second course,
He'd swallow them all without any remorse,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

chorus
Polly Makoo Kamoling Kung,
Hangery Wangery Chingery Ching,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

.........
The long list of words in the chorus were, as we thought of it, the king's name.

Need Lyrics for this song for family reunion this summer, Grandpa Buchan used to sing this song sometimes. We can't remember all the words, and are not sure of the origin.
I moved this message here from another thread on the same topic.

From: Metchosin

One that my Mom taught me, that she sang when she was small and was called THE CANNIBAL KING is as follows:

Oh a cannibal King
With a big nose ring
Fell in love with a Zulu maid
And every night
In the pale moonlight
Across the canal he'd wave

His dusky miss
Gave him a kiss
All under the green bay tree
And every night they say a duet
That sounded like this to me

Oh jason lee ah
Ka yiah boowah
Oh pappa wawa
Conneticuh
Umpah umpah umpah

As the years went by
Like one two three
Soon there was a family
And every night
In the pale moon light
It sounded like this to me
Chorus:

Hokey Pokey Winky Wong Balley Magoo Agoo Agong, Hangery Bangery Bingery Bong, The King of the Cannibal Islands. Hoogabahoogabahoogabahoogabahoogabahoogabahoo.

It would appear as you have quite a few versions here...if you should need more, I can listen to theirs and transcribe it for you.

The version my grandfather taught my mother, which she then taught me, includes these verses:

He dined on clergyman cold and raw
A bone from whom got stuck in his craw
The very last meal that he ever saw
The King of the Cannibal Islands

The last words of this monarch bold
Were not bequeathing his lands or gold The King of the Cannibal Islands!

Cho:

Oh, Hokey Poley, Winky Wung
Calamaroo, Calamarung
Wangery, Changery, Chingery Chung,
The King of the Cannibal Islands!

But then of course there is the folk process to be considered! :>)

Hey all, I've been trying to find a missing lyric from a similar song we used to sing at my summer camp. Can anybody help? Here's what I've got:

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

Now as I sailed the seas one day,
To the south seas made my way,
Struck a reef in a bottomless Bay,
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

I said to the king, How do you do?
And how the dickens do you do?
And he said very fine thank you.
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

The king he made a prince of me,
And called me Cor-a-Kai-ra-Kee
And we were happy as can be,
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

The king for me prepared a Roast,
And 40 wives gave up the ghost,
And we had crocidile with toast,
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

-------------------- (here's the line I don't know)
And little boy pie, for second course
All served up in an old dead horse,
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

But now I'm back, I'm safe and sound,
Upon my own, my native ground.
And never more will I be found...
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Winky Wong,
Polly Kabink and Spurly Gum,
Tamsy Wamsy Wirly Rum,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

that's it. Any help would be much appreciated!

King of the Cannibal Islands.

The king he made a prince of me,

King of the Cannibal Islands.

The king he had a royal toast,
And 40 wives came up the coast,
And we had crocidile on toast,
Way down in the cannibal islands!

Hoky Poky Wiky Wom,
Pally Kabpnkis smula con,
pansy Wansy weary wom,
King of the Cannibal Islands.

a cannibal gave us an awfull fright
but he only wanted just one bite
down in the cannibal islands

I am 83 and learned this as a kid from my mother: the first versr and chorus are very like the one posted, and I learned 2 more verses"
Today they seem somewhat gory, but didn't seem to bother us as kids.

Oh, have you heard this story of late
For if you haven't its in my pate
About a mighty potentate,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.
Hokey, pokey, winky, wunk
Kal-i-ma-ko, ma-ku, ma- kunk
Hangery,changery,chingery, chunk
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

Woman puddin' and baby sauce (somehow we did not find this scary)
Little boy pie for second course
He swallowed then all without remorse
The King of the Cannibl Islands.
(Chorus)

The worst of my story remains to be told
He died of eating a clergyman cold
And that was the end of this perate so bold
The King of the Cannibal Islands.
(Chorus)

What a relief. One of my fellow inmates pointed out that the thread title was "King of the Cannibals," not "The King of Cannibis," as I first thought...

I'm not sure how old the song is, but I heard at least one variant of it around 1946 or so.

This is how I learned this song from my father and he learned it as a boy in the 1920-30s:

KING OF THE CANNIBAL ISLANDS

chorus
Hokey Pokey Winky Wung,
Polly Makoo Mago Ma,
Hangery Wangery Chingery Chung,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

The King and his wife were too fat,
The principle diet consisted of rats.
The only weapons that they had...
...were baseball bats
...way down on the Cannibal Islands.

chorus
Hokey Pokey Winky Wung,
Polly Makoo Mago Ma,
Hangery Wangery Chingery Chung,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

My dad learned this song at Boy Scout Camp or YMCA camp back in the 1920s. He used to sing it to us kids in the 1950s. Here is all I remember of his version. I'm glad to see all the other verses that I have forgotten. Thanks.

Hokey Pokey Winky Wum.
Parlacom pinky moorly come
Hansy tansy whyry rum
Down on the Cannibal Islands.

The king, he had a little roast.
and 40 of his wives, gave up the ghost.
and we had crocodiles on toast
Down on the cannibal islands.

The king he made a chief of me
and called me Nora Kirah Kee.
and we got gay as gay could be.
Down on the cannibal islands.

This song obviously has lots of variants. The version I learned as a child was as follow:

Hokey Pokey Winky Wung,
Polly Makoo and Pumering Kong,
Hangery Wangery Chingery Chung,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

Woman pudding, baby sauce,
Little boy pie for a second course:
He swallowed them all without any remorse,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

Then one day through terrible fault
He ate clergyman cold without pepper or salt.
They laid him away in the family vault,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

His will it read, so I’ve been told,
Not of riches or lands or gold,
But warned all men against clergymen cold,
The King of the Cannibal Islands.

This is the version I learned from my grandmother in the early '40's, as remembered by my father. Oddly enough, as others have said, it did not bother me as a child.

Oh, have you heard the story of late?
For if you've not, 'tis on my pate.
Woman pudding and baby sauce,
And little-boy pie for a second course.
He never took less at a meal than three
This King of the Cannibal Islands.

But the worst of my story remains to be told.
It did not agree with his earthly mold.
He died of eating raw clergymen, cold,
This King of the Cannibal Islands.

The last words of this monarch bold
Were not bequeathing land or gold,
But warning all against clergymen cold
This King of the Cannibal Islands

Chorus: (spelling unknown)

Hokey-pokey winky wong
Camery, cumery,comery, com
Hangery, rangery, chingery ching,
The King of the Cannibal Islands
