15 Dec 06 - 09:56 PM (#1910676) Subject: Where have the American Mud-Catters gone From: richlmo I haven't been around much lately for some reason or another, but it seems to me that about 5 years or so ago this site was about half Euro and half US/Canada and some Australian even. What happened? It was way cool to discuss Bluegrass and Slim Dusty and whatever else came along. Not that I don't enjoy the information on concert dates in the UK and such, but I miss the other folks. (If everyone went somewhere else, give me a clue. |

The Americans are here..especially in the NorthEast, where most of the festivals and such happen. I can list 30-40 from the East coast easily, and 20-30 others from the rest of the country.....we just don't use Mudcat in 'quite' the same way as the Brits. |

15 Dec 06 - 11:37 PM (#1910755) Subject: RE: Where have the American Mud-Catters gone From: Jerry Rasmussen I tend to post at least once, every day. Things really are different over here. No sense posting a concert in Wyoming... it's 2,000 miles away from me. We're spread out, if not spaced out. There's a lot of news about local events in England that make perfect sense over your way that would make no sense over here. I don't mind the imbalance, if you folks don't. There's still more than enough to keep my interest. Jerry |
15 Dec 06 - 11:42 PM (#1910759) Subject: RE: Where have the American Mud-Catters gone From: Azizi Another American Mudcatter signing in. ** richlmo, here's a Blues thread that started in 1998 and was just recently revived: Favorite Blues Songs thread.cfm?threadid=3748&messages=47 -snip- And since I'm here, I'm gonna say this: I figure if folks want to have more discussions about Blues and other types of music that fall in to an [expanded?] category of folk music than we either have to refresh old threads and/or start new threads on those subjects. And we have to join in the discussion on those threads. If we don't do this, then there's no sense of complaining about the fact that there's so few threads about Blues. In the same token, if Americans ["UnitedStaters"] start fewer threads than other folks, then it's on us to change that if we want things to change. Of course, "the more the merrier" [threads] isn't always the best & the most interesting or the most witty [wittiest? sp?] Be that as it may or may not be, Best wishes, Azizi |

I'd say that at least 4 catters were there, a slow nite but tomorrow I'll probably be seeing & singing with maybe 1/2 a dozen from Maine, better than 1/2 dozen from New Hampshire & maybe another 1/2 dozen from the Cape Ann/Glouchester, Mass area at the monthly shanty session. We'll be at the Press Room in Portsmouth (US). What would it be like if all the North American catters moved to Long Island? We'd be acting like the Brits. I'm green with envy. I can't imagine, how delightful. I'll move if the rest will. Barry |
16 Dec 06 - 01:06 AM (#1910788) Subject: RE: Where have the American Mud-Catters gone From: Johnhenry'shammer I'm here in Denver. I don't post too much because there seem to be a whole lot of threads about obscure Irish groups I've never heard of and sea chantey groups and all that. I listen to more Guthrie, Dylan, Seeger, Ochs, Van Ronk, Lunsford, Skip James, Son House, John Hurt, Blind Willie Johnson, and more of that kind of thing so I only see limited opportunities to say anything. It also sometimes seems like everybody knows eachother in the real world and so I feel like I'm crashing the party sometimes. I guess that's that. |
