There will be a Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger Tribute at Freddy's Backroom in Brooklyn on January 5, 2007. A number of artists will be playing. Has anyone performed there before?

"First night" is the name for alcohol-free public new year's eve celebrations. They are hosted by cities around the USA.

Any New York musicians out there who know about Freddy's?

Russ,

Freddy's is a fantastic place. I've played there on several occasions and I find that it is one of the most intimate and creative rooms in the city. It can get tight in there, so arrive early to grab a good seat. Freddy's is a great bar, and the music space is in the back room. The stage is on the floor, same level, and there is a basic PA with a decent drum kit. Drummers may want to bring basics like cymbals, snare, and throne. The bar is being threatened by a proposed development for a new basketball stadium for the Nets. You could read about that here: http://www.developdontdestroy.org

I won't be able to make this show, since I will be away. I encourage you to go to Freddy's now to experience a true local Brooklyn scene! If you make it, say "hi" to Steve Kirkman for me. He's a friend of mine, and he's organizing the event. To get to know about Steve, go here: http://www.myspace.com/hopemachine or http://www.stevekirkman.com I hope this helps,
