ArtsCan Circle = love Canadian style

Looking for love this season? Here's where to find a whole lot of it....

Canadian harmonica wizard Mike Stevens founded The ArtsCan Circle as a volunteer organization which links folk musicians and artists with Native youth in remote isolated northern communities. The purpose of the group is to help to raise self-esteem in some extremely difficult physical and social environments.

Now I'm not a spokesperson for this group, but I have been very touched by what they are doing, and I feel that it's important to let my fellow Mudcatters know about it.

It's quite amazing! Mike Steven, along with Raymond McLain, Magoo, Aengus Finnan, Laura Bird, Trevor Mills and others have traveled to the far north and played music, distributed donated musical instruments, and even set up some instrument lending libraries and recording studios. Kids from kindergarten to high school age - dropouts included - are experiencing the joy of creating music and art.

There are several ways to support this really important work. Perhaps you could donate a musical instrument which is just sitting there untouched, or maybe you could part with a cash donation to support their journeys. Maybe you'd like to purchase a 2007 Calendar: Through A Musician's Eyes - or a Groovy Compilation CD - or support the Drum Drive.

Rewinding this message - because it's that especially generous time of year...if you have a musical instrument just gathering dust, please consider donating it to the ACC.

Tubas, flutes, shakers, autoharps, drums, guitars, even banjos! If it's just sleeping in a corner of your attic, plaase onsider donating it to at-risk Native youth in northern Canada.
