I'm thinking of going to Gulgong (NSW) this year but can't find an up to date website confirming that it's on.
Anybodies know wots happening?

Hi Keef

The festival's not on, but Bill Bekric has been organising an unofficial festival there instead(camping, sessions etc). I'll pm you Bill's email so you can ask him.

best wishes

Gulgong's not on; sad.
However, Nariel is;
fires are quite distant.

Cheers, Rowan

Just received this email from Bill Bekric, reproduced here without permission and with minor edits:

GULGONG MINI-FESTIVAL

There is DEFINITELY something happening at Gulgong. I finally managed to get Friday off, so I will be there Friday 29th am to open Red Hill. Probably have a session at Red Hill Friday night. We are having a session Saturday night at the Commercial hotel & Sunday night at the Centennial hotel. I have the Opera House for a scratch concert on Sunday 1pm to 5 pm. The Opera House Trust are letting me have it for a gold coin donation at the door. Monday morning, big farewell breaky at Red Hill. The Ed Dept (who own Red Hill) tell me I have to charge $8 a night for either camping or dorm stay. Really hope to see you there. Please pass this on to your friends. Bill.

Not me this year. I'm staying home and keeping cool - at least I have a better chance of it if I stay home instead of rushing around. If you must go to Gulgong, the dining room of the Centennial with the fan and the airconditioning and a few schooners of ice is the next best thing.

I plan on sitting under the lilli pilli tree at home, sipping on a gin and tonic or a nice cold beer and eating smoked salmon and prawns with salad made from the produce of my garden. A few others who aren't gallivanting off to festivals may join us from time to time. Very civilised.

But don't let me stop you.... ;-)

I just might join you, JennyO - the weather forecast is perfect, around 24 on Christmas day

Let the hatters go out in the sun, we'll be civilized & stay in the cool

Yes Sandra, I noticed the weather forecast. Should be nice. You know you're expected on Christmas Day. There are some vegetables with your name on too!

We're not going this year - we are taking our caravan further north, to Tamworth. If we are moving there in a couple of years (the current plan) we would like to get to know the place and the people again.

Sorry Keef, we don't sound very encouraging, do we ;-( It's just that the few of us who've posted aren't going this year. Even if the festival was on, I wouldn't be. It does sound as if there'll be stuff happening though. I wonder who GUEST, Squeezeme is. A concertina player?

Did freda email you Bill Bekric's email addy? If he hasn't, I will.

Squeezeme is a member - a concertina repairer & player. He was at the 2006 National.

Many apologies. I should have reset my cookie before posting above.
Yes, Sandra in Sydney, that's me.

I'll definitely be at Gulgong; hope a few others will be there too. Bill has worked hard to get something happening for this year in the absense of the "usual suspects", (sorry, I mean hard-working organisers). So it would be great to see good support for his efforts.

Reading between the lines, I think the future direction of the Gulgong festival may depend upon the outcome of this year's event.

Seasonal Greetings to all.

Malcolm

P.S. No doubt the accordion and concertina clinic will be open for business at RedHill!    ;-)

Hi Squeezme - sorely tempted to bring the Hohner out - I know how much you must be missing it!!

Usually go to Nariel but will miss it too - going camping with the family up at Patonga instead.

G'day alison & Malcolm,

The on-line weather forecasts are making too many bets, that far ahead, but it looks like being a good 10ÂșC cooler than Gulgong has been in some recent years - and it's even possible there might be some cooling rain.

I'm committed to a few other things, but I will try to get up the Mudgee Road to Gulgong for at least one day.

Regards,

Bob

Not us....it's been difficult to get any information about what is happening, it seems to be a secret, and what little we have found out doesn't appeal. So we have decided to hitch up the van and go elsewhere.
