Obit: Joe Barbera - Flintstones creator

I missed most of the news report but Joe Barbera, half of Hanna-Barbera, creators of the Flintstones and many others has died aged 95.

OK, so it's not music related, but he did colour a large part of my childhood, and I daresay, the childhoods of many other 'Catters of my generation.

The man should have had an award every year of his life for bringing such joy and laughter to so many many people.

Agreed Liz!! Some of my most enduring childhood memories are to do with his cartoons. I remember when I was about nine we used to have a grocery delivery from the local Co-op on a Thursday evening and my sister's and my weekly treat was a tube of Smarties which came with the delivery. We used to eat them while watching the Flinstones.

He probably lived to such a great age due to laughing....

So he finally exited, stage upwards not stage left.

RIP Joe - you brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of kids, of all ages :-)

No matter what your age, they have a cartoon for you.....a great studio and two inspired men. Thanks for the snickers, chuckles, and all out belly laughs.

He also made economic use of their soundtracks. Pretty much the same soundtrack in all their cartoons. Only the theme songs changed.

What was the fiddle tune that Huckleberry Hound always whistled? It wasn't "Arkansas Traveller", was it?

Huck usually sang 'Clementine'.

well - to tell the truth - he usually repeated the one line more or less endlessly (and near tunelessly) "oh my darling...."

My little sister, who was about 2 at the time, used to laugh hysterically at Mr Jinks and Pixie and Dixie. She had a gorgeous dirty chuckle and the neighbours used to come in when the Hucckleberry Hound show was coming on, just to hear her laugh at it!

Yeah, he sang "Clementine" but there was another old-time tune he often whistled that was not "Clementine".

some cartoon cahracter sang "I'm bringing home a baby bumble bee,
won't my mamma be so proud of me" i think it was to the tune of
Arkansas Traveller--not sure if it was huckleberry hound or not?
