Different genetic make-up, different parents, but hey, why should that get in the way? And Barbara Brown shares our birthday but not, I think, the year. Anne |

20 Dec 06 - 04:30 AM (#1914483) Subject: RE: Patti Smith's birthday (20 December 1946) From: Mick Tems Our friends on Mudcat are confused between Patti Smith, queen of punk, and Pattie Smith, queen of spoons. This is not the first time that mistaken identity has been the victim - we were touring Belgium a few years ago, and we were delighted that a crowd of punks had gathered to see us at this pub. Realisation slowly dawned when we gathered that it wasn't Mick Tems and Patti Smith the punks wanted, but the axe-playing Patti Smith... Anyway, the mistake in the birthdays should put you right. Dame Spoons is FAR older than that... ouch! Only joking! |

20 Dec 06 - 05:27 AM (#1914527) Subject: RE: Patti Smith's birthday (20 December 1946) From: Wolfgang Probably yes, but these birthday threads are too good to be ignored. Let's forget in here his motives and use these threads in a good way for us. I consider it an embarrassment for a music site to have wrong birthdays of musicians in thread titles. Patti Smith, well, but I cringe when I think that Mudcat has Paul Robeson's birthday still wrong in a thread title. Wolfgang |

20 Dec 06 - 08:00 AM (#1914601) Subject: RE: Patti Smith's birthday (20 December 1946) From: The Shambles I consider it an embarrassment for a music site to have wrong birthdays of musicians in thread titles. Patti Smith, well, but I cringe when I think that Mudcat has Paul Robeson's birthday still wrong in a thread title. There are many more embarrasing things than that now demonstrated on our forum. But if Paul Robeson's birthdate is wrong in a thread title - then I am not to blame for this - am I? Perhaps you would accept that this is the fault of our anonymous 'moderators'? Who now insist on changing these thread titles - without asking my permission or seemingly checking that the information that they are recording in the thread's title is correct. For you also complain and blame me for NOT putting the date in the thread's title. One of the reasons I do not put the date in the thread title - is because whichever site is used - there is always some argument among the pedantic few which such details matter to about which is the correct date - so if I use the same site I will be at least be consistently wrong. And as I can always an rely on you Wolgang to check my posts in order to find such discrepancies - and as this appears to give you pleasure - I see little need for me to do it. |
20 Dec 06 - 10:10 AM (#1914749) Subject: RE: Patti Smith's birthday (20 December 1946) From: Wolfgang It does not give me pleasure at all, but I hate it if wrong information is given on a site that many people come to for information about music and musicians. But if Paul Robeson's birthdate is wrong in a thread title - then I am not to blame for this - am I? Perhaps you would accept that this is the fault of our anonymous 'moderators'? I have not at all stated in my post above who is to blame. However, you are the one who has given unchecked and wrong information as a fact first. For that and nothing else you have to take the blame. Your reasoning for why you don't switch to another site is very funny. Why not just change to another source if one source is found to be often wrong? Whenever I make a suggestion that could make the birthday threads a better source of information you treat me (or the suggestion?) as if that were another attack on your God (Max) given right to post whatever you want in the sense of the "closed threads and deleted posts" debate. Can't you forget that pet theme just for a minute? We are here in the music part of this site and should all try to make the information sound, reliable and easily accessible. That is my aim. The other discussion is in the BS part of this site. Wolfgang Wolfgang |

However, you are the one who has given unchecked and wrong information as a fact first. For that and nothing else you have to take the blame. No Wolfgang - your embarrasment was at seeing what you judge to be the wrong dates in the thread title. As I do not place the dates in the thread title - and you have also posted to moan at that too - I can have no blame for our 'moderators' imposing changes to originators title - inserting innacurate information and doing this unchecked. As you seem to hold me responsible for many of what you see as our forum's shortcomings - perhaps you would accept that our 'moderators/' should be blamed when they have provided inacurate information and be seen to take responsibility for all of their actions? |

The Birthday Threads are a fun read, and they should be accurate as well. Shambles, you had a great idea. Why not work with our resident pedant Wolfie to insure the dates are correct. Can't we...can't we all just get along? And barring that, I think trial by combat is appropriate. Sackbuts and bombardes at twenty paces? |
