22 Dec 06 - 11:53 PM (#1917261) Subject: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: JennieG I knw there have been other "Christmas wishes" threads but this one is special. It's coming from the land of the Warm Christmas where we have mud (if we have been lucky enough to have rain) instead of snow. So Happy Thingmas and Seasonal Whatevers to all! Cheers JennieG |

23 Dec 06 - 01:37 AM (#1917274) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: Sandra in Sydney some Oz folks spend christmas day on a beach! They seek the heat - they revel in it, they wear swimsuits & tanning lotion!! They go outdoors at any chance & lay about in the sun, they must be lizards. Not me, mate, I hide indoors with fans blasting COLD air on me. When I venture out I wear long skirts & long sleeved tops, a shady hat & big sunnies. Fortunately Chrissy day is going to be cooler than usual so I will be able to get to JennyO's place (& hide under hat & sunnies beneath the famous tarp!) seasonable greetings to all sandra |

23 Dec 06 - 03:02 AM (#1917284) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: JennyO And the famous tarp is under the famous lilli pilli tree, so not only is it shady, it is very cool. We seem to catch whatever breezes there are in that spot too. We're still very busy doing stuff to get ready for Christmas, but tonight we are going to drive around some of the nearby streets and look at Christmas lights - after turning ours on, of course. The best street I know for lights around here, is Second St in Ashbury. 1st, 3rd and 4th Sts are pretty good too, but Second St is the BEST! Anyway, if you are in one of those freezing places - or in fact anywhere else, here are some nice warm Summer Solstice and Christmas Greetings from me and John! Jenny |

23 Dec 06 - 07:44 AM (#1917371) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: JennyO Joyeux Noel, David. I spent Christmas at my brother's place in Paris a few years ago. Yes, it was cold, but it was magical, full of atmosphere with the lit up streets - the Champs is amazing! I loved it. I've only been in Paris a few times for a couple of weeks here and there, but there's something about the place that makes it feel like a second home to me. I get twinges of homesickness thinking about it - and I'm thinking about it now. By the way David, have you had a look at Graham's website yet? All the details were in the PM I sent you back in September. Hope you're doing okay. Jenny |

23 Dec 06 - 01:33 PM (#1917554) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: GUEST UK friends of mine are visiting Oz this week for the cricket and I feel sorry for them. I'd be embarrassed to be Pom in Oz whilst the Ashes are still on. With two more test matches in which to get totally humiliated, I'm surprised the barmy army haven't come home for Christmas! Actually, they may not be able to get home as Heathrow has been closed for the last few days due to freezing fog! Still, after 50-odd UK Christmasses behind me, it just wouldn't seem the same to me if it wasn't freezing cold outside whilst we sit in a warm house tucking into turkey and all the trimmings..... |

Oh, wait a minute, I bet that 30 was in centigrade. We're in fahrenheit. Never mind. Seriously, Happy Christmas to you all, and I'm looking forward to our next visit - and maybe a trip to the famous tarp! All the best, JudyB from Maine (where it really ought to be colder than 40 degrees) |

23 Dec 06 - 10:32 PM (#1917919) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: JennieG We have been having the best Chrissie present we would possibly have had - heavy rain. It has been pouring today. Himself has just gone to visit his mother in the home for the terminally bewildered (she is too, poor old dear) and he waited until the rain eased off, it was too heavy to drive with the other idiots out there. Have been chatting online to our son in Ontario - East York - they aren't expecting a white Christmas. Cheers JennieG |

23 Dec 06 - 11:07 PM (#1917930) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: JennyO Hi Judy and Charlie. Our tarp is waiting eagerly for your next visit. It will be getting a workout for the next couple of days with assorted visitors. Hope you can come next year! In the last hour, water's been pouring off the tarp in all directions cos we've just had a very lively thunderstorm. It's good though, because the garden has had a good watering, and it's supposed to clear by tomorrow. The weather tomorrow sounds perfect - not too hot, which suits me fine. Meanwhile, while John was trying to attach a pole to the laundry building a couple of hours ago, he accidentally drilled through a water pipe, and water was gushing out sideways. We had to call an emergency plumber and turn the water off. We were bemoaning the fact of no water to make a cup of tea, until I went outside in the rain with a jug and collected some rainwater for the kettle. Very nice cuppa it was too. I've done that lots of times when I was camping. So it's been exciting, to say the least, and expensive - $250 just for the plumber to call out on a Sunday. If he takes more than an hour, it will be another $165, which we don't really have - but I don't think it will take too long. He's out there now with his welding gear under another tarp which John rigged up for him to work under. Well as they say, it never rains but it pours....... |

It's Christmas Day already in Oz - because we are so far ahead of everyone else *grin* - in fact it's past 9am. We shall mooch gently through the morning and then go out to lunch with our older son (Stephen The Travelling Drummer) who is in Sydney at present. And we have had more rain! No AD, I shall not be watching the cricket tomorrow - I don't give a sh*t who wins or loses - Best wishes to all Cheers JennieG |

Christmas without snow or a little fog and cold weather. Brrrr. Well, if we had 4th of July in winter here in the Golden State we probably wouldn't have such a big restriction on fireworks. God bless you anyway and a very Merry Christmas to you all! |

24 Dec 06 - 05:39 PM (#1918370) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: Helen Have a happy day, everyone. As JennieG said, it is cool weather, which is nice for a change at Christmas. It does start sprinkling with rain now and then, but not enough to worry about getting wet. And I don't give a sh*t about cricket either! I can't wait to find out if my Secret Santee likes the presents, which are not being opened until Christmas Day in the US. I hope they are suitable. All the best for everyone at Christmas, and peace & goodwill to all. Helen |

24 Dec 06 - 09:22 PM (#1918483) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: Charley Noble JennyO and John- We'll bring our emergency plumbing kit when we arrive in October, although that may be a little late for the current crisis. We'll also bring bunge cords, cement blocks, and tent spikes. Lord knows, our reappearance may generate a cyclone, or a Tasman Buster! Whatever! Merry Christmas to all, and raise a cup of tea to us as well! Cheerily, Charley and Judy |

24 Dec 06 - 10:56 PM (#1918505) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: JennyO Hi Charlie and Judy, I can just imagine your excess baggage charges with all that stuff! Well, ya gotta be prepared ;-) It's all sorted now, apart from the hole in the wall. It was a bit exciting for a while tho. Just for a change, the weather is perfect. The rain went away early this morning and it's sunny and beautiful - but not too hot. The Christmas Bush looks fantastic - lovely and red. Vegetables are running rampant all over the garden - I can't pick them fast enough. Sandra is going to help us out by taking some home. It's a shame she doesn't like capsicums, cos we have heaps. But she can have beans, tomatoes, lemons and a cucumber or two. Merry Christmas to you guys! John can raise a cup of tea, but if you don't mind, I'll raise a stubby of Coopers Sparkling Ale, which is what I have in my hand right nowl Jenny |

25 Dec 06 - 01:24 AM (#1918530) Subject: RE: BS: Merry Christmas from Oz Catters From: Rowan A cool Yule to yo'all! Actually, some parts of SE Oz have had snow today. Mt Wellington (Hobart) is covered and Mt Baw Baw (which had fires during the week on its lower slopes now has 2cm of snow. Where I am its just started drizzling while I load up the trailer with camping gear. I'm just about to shut the computer down (1725hrs on Christmas Day) so I can avoid the cricket (and the Sydney-Hobart yacht race) in the splendid company of the Nariel camp ovens. Cheers, Rowan |
