31 Dec 06 - 04:35 PM (#1923487) Subject: RE: BS: Edinburgh New Year Party Cancelled From: John MacKenzie Newcastle Belfast and Liverpool now. BTW Guest, the vast majority of those attending the Edinburgh street party are non Scots, and many local residents make a point of not being there. So not many kilts then! G. |

31 Dec 06 - 07:54 PM (#1923633) Subject: RE: BS: Edinburgh New Year Party Cancelled From: eddie1 Haven't had a New Year in Edinburgh since 97 when I worked till 11.00pm in Glasgow, drove to my girl friends flat (I'd sold mine) and had a drink with the TV - she was in Fareham! Never did go to the big celebration which has got bigger but I'm sorry so many folk will be disappointed. Organisers were sure there'd be no need to cancel whatever the weather! Amusing aside - the first year they decided on tickets for the bash, an inspector from Lothians & Borders was being interviewed on TV and announced that a ticket would be required to get into the city centre after 8.00pm - roadblocks and everything! Interviewer: What about people in the city centre before 8.00pm? Inspector: Eh, welllll! Result - lots of drunks in city centre from 7.00pm! Eddie |

By the way, do you know yet who my elves are? ;-) We were very lucky with the weather in Sydney. There was rain expected, but it held off pretty much till about 8 the next morning. Last night (the 1st) was another story though. It pissed down all night! Then it stopped this morning and it's a beautiful sparkly day, not too hot, with the sun poking through. Couldn't be better! |
