Due to wet and very windy weather the annual New Year Street Party in Edinburgh has been cancelled, along with those of Glasgow and Stirling.
Sorry for the folks that were hoping to go.

Too many kilts flying up in that wind would frighten the animals. Wise move to cancel.

Newcastle Belfast and Liverpool now.

BTW Guest, the vast majority of those attending the Edinburgh street party are non Scots, and many local residents make a point of not being there.
So not many kilts then!

Giok- Must be nasty out. Is the weather wild enough that I should be concerned about friends in Corstorphine?

Thanks,

Maeve

Winds gusting to 70 MPH, 11000 homes on the west coast without electricity, it's a shitty night. Shouldn't be any problems in Costorphine though.

Never mind we had a nice TV programme with Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain, Karine Polwart [yummy]and the Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band.
Happy 2007 to all Mudcatters.

Haven't had a New Year in Edinburgh since 97 when I worked till 11.00pm in Glasgow, drove to my girl friends flat (I'd sold mine) and had a drink with the TV - she was in Fareham!
Never did go to the big celebration which has got bigger but I'm sorry so many folk will be disappointed. Organisers were sure there'd be no need to cancel whatever the weather!
Amusing aside - the first year they decided on tickets for the bash, an inspector from Lothians & Borders was being interviewed on TV and announced that a ticket would be required to get into the city centre after 8.00pm - roadblocks and everything!
Interviewer:
What about people in the city centre before 8.00pm?
Inspector:
Eh, welllll!
Result - lots of drunks in city centre from 7.00pm!

"Shouldn't be any problems in Costorphine though."

Thanks. I'll try to raise them via email before trying the telephone.

The outdoor concert in New Zealand's capitol city, Wellington, was cancelled too - disgusting weather! Was it like this all around the world? So much for global warming!

Had a scare here in Maine too. The weather was shitty - sleet and freezing rain coating everything. For a while I thought the hordes weren't ever leaving. Changed to rain though.

Lucky for you, Mary - otherwise they'd all STILL be there! By the way, do you know yet who my elves are? ;-)

We were very lucky with the weather in Sydney. There was rain expected, but it held off pretty much till about 8 the next morning. Last night (the 1st) was another story though. It pissed down all night! Then it stopped this morning and it's a beautiful sparkly day, not too hot, with the sun poking through. Couldn't be better!
