New Mudcat Feature Testing

18 Mar 99 - 08:03 PM (#64117)
Subject: New Mudcat Feature Testing
From: Max

Hi all. I noticed that the ICQ chat room I set up is used quite extensively, so I thought I'd work on a chat room on the mudcat. Anyhow, we have a grand design for the future and a "for now" idea. I set up a test chat room here: http://www.mudcat.org/chat/irc.cfm. Try it out if you like and let me know what you think. As I mentioned, this will be eventually replaced with our own chat thing. Oh, also, it is members only for now.

Couldn't make it into the chat room. I did however read something about an error regarding some member who didn't bring an ID. (Is this an adults only thing?) I have a valid Washington State drivers license is that good enough to get in? It's got my picture on it. Will I also have to give a fingerprint, retina scan, blood, stool, and urine sample, like I do when I'm cashing a check? Then there was something about someone who didn't bring enough cookies to go around for everyone??? I didn't know it was suppose to be a potluck chat or I would've baked some cookies too.

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing
From: Banjer

Just checked out the chat room, all seems to be working well. I was there by myself, however, and since I have been talking to myself long before I got into computers I didn't stay long! I run a Pentium 133, 1.2g hard drive and 48 megs of ram with the 4.04 Netscape browser. Got in with a minimumDL time and all functioned well. I did notice that on the little ID screen my nicknmae is as I originally listed it, "Banjeray". This board has shortened it to Banjer, which is OK too. Look forward to being able to chat with folks in the chat room......Thanks for an excellent effort...It has made the Mudcat my #1 place to go after logging on and many times I spend all my available time here...I have been deleting some of my bookmars because I just don't feel I can spread myself that thin !! Thanks Max!!

Hi,

Just a suggestion... there are a lot of different time zones out there.. and it would be hard to get an acceptable time for everyone.. but how about if anyone who is online goes in there.... on the hour (you know when the long hand is pointing straight up) and loiters for say 5 minutes, then with a bit of luck we might bump into some other mudcatters......

what do you think?

Good idea, Alison. I was just in there, still says I am, but I minimized it, no sense in talking to just m'self!

Otherwise, Max, it's a great new feature; I've had a lot of fun in there. Will there eventually be "rooms" for private chats? And, do our words in there get saved anywhere or do they just go off into the cyberaethers?

Thanks, katlaughing

Got in successfully this morning and contacted Banjer and Shambles although we could not raise Baz despite the system showing him as being present. Since then the system seems to have lost my "cookie" (Must be them "Good ole boys 'kicking ass'!") I've reset that but attempts to reconnect to the 'chat room' time out. Is this because its full? I noticed Max had increased the limit to 5.

Catspaw, Barry:

Try going to it, independent of the Mudcat. When you open up your IE, backspace your address at the top to www.mudcat.org THEN type in : /chat/irc.cfm

and hit enter. Hopefully that will work. Kinda bypasses the threads, personal pages, and all, I think!
