I'm looking for who sings this song , I have all the words to it ,
its not theres and old and faded picture on the wall .
The refrain is ,

PICTURES ON THE WALL , Famous people one and all ,
No picture of Jesus on the wall .

The first verse starts ,
On a journey thru the mountain of Virginia
I stopped a while to visit with a friend.
She ran a country store , like her daddy did before ,
nothing much had changed since way back then.

I would guess that Dixie Hall recorded it, but you might try an e-mail to

valentine@bandleader.co.uk

and ask.

For those who'd like to hear what it sounds like--and in the process listen to a beautiful voice: here ya go.

The recording comes on automatically when I click the link. It's to Blue Circle Records. I'll see if I can locate it again and give you a place to google.

OK, Eb.

Google (in quotations)

"On a journey through the mountains of Virginia"

That will take you to one site. Click the "A Picture of Jesus" (which is the site title) and the sound should come on automatically.

BTW, I have no idea who IS singing there, but her voice is beautiful.

Funny, I don't hear anything when I go to that web page. However, there is another page at the same site that has a clickable link that makes the song play. (See below.)

Lyrics copied from the web site of Blue Circle Records:

A PICTURE OF JESUS
Written by Tom T. Hall (BMI) and Dixie Hall (BMI)

1. On a journey through the mountains of Virginia,
I stopped awhile to visit with a friend.
She ran the country store like her daddy had before.
Nothing much had changed since way back then.
I stood looking at a wall of faded pictures,
Some of them beginning to turn brown:
John and Uncle Jim up there with Loretta Lynn
And everybody who had been through town,

CHORUS: Pictures on the wall, famous people one and all,
Their pictures were hanging on the wall.

2. Among them all, I saw the face of Jesus
With the big celebrities we know so well.
When I asked her why, she gave me this reply:
She said, "That's a story that I love to tell."
She said it was a year ago come Sunday,
An old man with a bible came to call.
He said, "Do you love Jesus?" She said, "Yes, sir,"
But he just looked up sadly at the wall.

CHORUS: Pictures on the wall, famous people on the wall,
No picture of Jesus on the wall.

3. Well, full of shame she ran to get a picture.
She put Jesus in the middle of the store.
She turned to thank the stranger for his wisdom.
There was just a patch of sunlight on the floor.

CHORUS: Pictures on the wall, famous people one and all,
A picture of Jesus on the wall.

[Sung by The Daughters of Bluegrass (Jeanette Williams, Donica Christiensen, Heather Berry) on "Back to the Well;" and by Heather Berry on "To a Dove." There is a generous sound sample on this page.]
