Lyr Req: Mustafa / Mustapha - English lyrics?

Looking for lyrics to the song "Mustafa" (or "Mustapha") that begin:

"There is a man working (or walking) on a hillside...".
The lyrics are in English, and are probably taken from a poem.

"Mustafa" was a hit in the early sixties. The melody was traditional
Lebanese and the lyrics used were nonsense mixture of French/Italian.
I think there's an Italian version too, about ice-cream.

Thanks in advance.

I don't remember the man walking on the hillside, but:

"To get your hand I went to see your father,
"He was glad to see me as far as I could gather.
"We talked it over and he told me, 'Mister,
"Do me a favour, take both her and her sister'".

chorus:

"Cherie, je t'aime, cherie je t'adore.
"[can't remeber this line]
"Just like a match you have set me on fire,
"Don't leave me now in the warmth of me desire" (?).

I may remember more later. Stay tuned.

I found an article about a song called YA MUSTAPHA or MUSTAPHA at a web site called The Gilded Serpent. Here's a quote:
In Europe, the song became popular with the help of Bob Azzam (who published it in 1960 in France with rather silly lyrics consisting of at least 3 languages): "Chérie je t'aime, chéri je t'adore - como la salsa del pomodoro" (Darling, I love you, darling, I adore you – like tomato sauce). The number, considered cute, was a big hit and progressed up to number 23 in the British hit charts and even number 1 in Belgium. It also sold well in Greece, Italy, and Brazil. Bob Azzam recorded other songs like "Fais-moi du couscous chéri" (Make couscous for me, darling).

Still not, what was asked, but to refresh the thread I post the German lyrics.

Salem alaikum, Allah sei mir gnädig,
oh, Mustafa, nimm dich in acht.
Laß doch Sulaika, bleibe lieber ledig,
wer weiß, was sonst der Sultan macht.
Oh Mustafa, oh Mustafa,
laß doch des Sultans Tochter geh'n,
denn ohne sie, oh Mustafa,
ist doch die Welt genau so schön.
Mustafa verkaufte Nüsse im Basar,
da sah er Sulaika, schön und wunderbar.
Und er rief: Ich muss es wagen,
sie um ihre Hand zu fragen,
denn ich liebe diese Eine,
diese Eine oder Keine.
Oh Mustafa, oh Mustafa,
lass doch des Sultans Tochter geh'n,
denn ohne sie, oh Mustafa,
ist doch die Welt genau so schön.
Er warf sich vor ihr in den Sand,
da hob Sulaika ganz leise die Hand.
Zwei Sultandiener packten ihn,
jedoch er konnte dort entflieh'n.
Salem alaikum, Allah sei mir gnädig,
oh, Mustafa, nimm dich in acht.
Laß doch Sulaika, bleibe lieber ledig,
wer weiß, was sonst der Sultan macht.
Oh Mustafa, oh Mustafa,
oh, Mustafa, nimm dich in acht.
Laß doch Sulaika, bleibe lieber ledig,
wer weiß, was sonst der Sultan macht.
Oh Mustafa, oh Mustafa,
laß doch des Sultans Tochter geh'n,
denn ohne sie, oh Mustafa,
ist doch die Welt genau so schön.
Oh, Mustafa!

That's probably the version I saw my good friends "Herzen in Terzen" doing (in my own pub, by the way)

There is a discussion of the song—in German—on this page: Holl. Radiopiraten zünden nach Algerien!.

That page gives URLs of two mp3 files. Both are in Dutch (Nederlandse):

A 47-second excerpt of a version called ARABIET (click to play)

A 39-second excerpt of another version called ALI BABA (click to play)

(At least the web site claims they are the same song, but they sound quite different to me.)
