"Tiddy" in the Bahamian version June Nichols used to sing.

I think I can get some more verses tonight.

"Rock Creek' used to sing the song, with Wally Macnow on lead vocal, Bill Destler on tenor and me on bass. Wally would know its origin - it does sound West Indian to me.

Caroline and I learned it in the Bahamas, more than thirty years ago, with the lender being "mama." Other verses:

Mama, lend me your turtle to keep company with mine.
My turtle gone swim in the pond, my turtle gone wild.

Mama, lend me your donkey, to keep company with mine.
My donkey gone run on the track, my donkey gone wild.

We used it on our first children's recording - "I've Got a Song" (Folk-Legacy CD-52).

I know it from Ken Schatz (Dan's brother) & Alison Kelley known together as NexTradition, they do a lovely job on it too. Don't know where they got it from, it might be on there CD, not sure.

Tinni lend me pigeon to keep company with mine (2x)
My pigeon gone wild in the bush
My pigeon gone wild

Tinni lend me your monkey to keep company with mine (2x)
My monkey gone wild in the bush
My monkey gone wild

etc.

I know it from several sources, but mainly from a recording by Blind Blake (Alphonso Higgs)--the Blind Blake of the Bahamaas, not the blues musician.

It's on his 1951 recording (see http://www.wirz.de/music/blakbfrm.htm )--the same recording where I got the version of "Run Come See Jerusalem" that everyone else learned from. The cut there is titled "My Pigeon Gone Wild."

Thanks, Barry. Taught to us by Jim Mageean and Johnny Collins, who should have known better - you can't stop this thing:

O Tinni lend me your pigeon to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my pigeon gone wild in the bush, my pigeon gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your rooster to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my rooster gone crowin' in the day, my rooster gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your pony to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my pony gone trottin' up the track, my pony gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your donkey to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my donkey gone brayin' in the field, my donkey gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your turtle to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my turtle gone swimmin' in the sea, my turtle gone wild (2x)

O Tinni lend me your pigeon to keep comp'ny with mine (2x)
But my pigeon gone wild in the bush, my pigeon gone wild (2x)

I know where they got it...on a rainy evening following the Mystic
Festival, down in the great cabin of the Mystic Whaler, from the
lovely lead singer of the group 'Lireliet.' We sang that thing
to death. Funny thing, a Friesien teaching an American a Bahamian
song...
