On TG 4 Webcast I found and listened to several Gaelic Folk programs. Among them, and excluding the didledee shows - if you have that patience to go through several of these to get to the good stuff, it is well worth the effort - I found this last week posted again an entire show about the Hannah family of Derry ?Tesc? in one of Ireland's northern Counties. Anyway because I already knew a little about British folk singing and had heard of Len Graham and others, the content of the show was not new to me, BUT the singing of Sarah Anne I had never heard, nor indeed that of Geordie. So if you know about this amazing family, please tell me all. Thanks |

I don't know what TG 4 is & I'm not to sure about webcast either but I am sure this was as good a place as any to post that info. I know of Geordie Hanna & his sister Sarah Anne O'Neill only from a tape that I had from back in the late 70's & have since missed, they were something to listen to, as were all the others. I still have the accompying book "Traditional Songs & Singers" put out by Comhaltas in 1977. Geordie was featured doing 2 songs & Sarah doing one in the book & on the companion tape. They were in fine company of number of other singers, including some of Ireland's finest (IMHO); Tom 'O Coisdealbha (Tom Phaidin Tom), Paddy Tunney, Elizabeth Cronin. Micheal 'O Suilleabhain, Sarah & Rita Keane, Siney Crotty, Michael Flanagan, Paddy Berry & a few others. I sure wish that I could find that tape each voice on it was worth the whole collection. They broadcast quite a lot of good quality traditional music - sometimes with English subtitles. Regards p.s. Barry, thanks for the references and information. It would be great if somebody over there in Ireland would gather together all the older recordings and e-publish them over the internet. I am certain they would make a good profit on the outlay. TG 4 4 is an RTE service over the internet which runs on any computer. I have cable internet and an XP computer about 3 years old, it plays the show on MS media player. |

Tyrone (near Lough Neagh) and I am sure it is the same person. |

This is a great CD with songs such as "The Lisburn Lass" "Brocagh Brae", "Paddy's green shamrock shore" etc. I'm not sure if its still available to purchase (maybe John Moulden could help us on this one?)
