17 Jan 07 - 09:31 AM (#1939388) Subject: Profiles and Photos From: Roger the Skiffler Now Max and Pene have worked their magic and the Photos and Profiles are available in mono (after a period of duplication) it would be nice (for those of us who are nosy) if newer members put some of their details up. Use Quick Links drop-down menu to locate Members Photos and Profiles and follow the instructions. Have a browse and see how young, slim and good looking we all are *BG*. RtS (face made for radio) |

17 Jan 07 - 10:57 AM (#1939465) Subject: RE: Profiles and Photos From: Bill D such a deal! SHYLOCK "What judgment shall I dread, doing no wrong? You have among you many a purchased slave, Which, like your asses and your dogs and mules, You use in abject and in slavish parts, Because you bought them: shall I say to you, Let them be free, marry them to your heirs? Why sweat they under burthens? let their beds Be made as soft as yours and let their palates Be season'd with such viands? You will answer 'The slaves are ours:' so do I answer you: The pound of flesh, which I demand of him, Is dearly bought; 'tis mine and I will have it." |

17 Jan 07 - 12:11 PM (#1939546) Subject: RE: Profiles and Photos From: reggie miles This subject is something I tried to get an answer for quite some time ago. I also asked why I wasn't able to create a profile and make my profile appear among the others. I never received an answer and assumed that, with all the attention that operating such a site surely must require, my request was low on the list. Perhaps I sent my question to the wrong authority. Between the glitches and the upgrades I suppose it could have got lost in the cyber space equivilent of the Twilight Zone. So, is it now possible for members to create or update their own profiles? Or must we send hard copies to those who would handle such matters? |
|
17 Jan 07 - 12:15 PM (#1939553) Subject: RE: Profiles and Photos From: Pilgrim Was just wondering the same thing reggie. It looks like you have to e-mail off a hard copy, andf if you have an URL to your photos then they can be uploade for you. I would stand corrected though. The members / photos header opens up another bit with this on if you click it. Bloomin computers.... |

17 Jan 07 - 01:36 PM (#1939624) Subject: RE: Profiles and Photos From: wysiwyg Once again, we run into another opportunity for misunderstanding because Mudcat and most of its features PREDATE the other forums that are so commonly used in today's internet culture. On most forums these days, the user sets up what is called a profile-- it's usually a series of boxes to fill in. It's often made up from your membership sign-up form, and you choose whether to let those details show or not show. At Mudcat, though, a profile is a page you write that describes you and your music, kind of like a section in a press kit. Most of the exisiting profiles are from professionally gigging musicnas and they include a link to their website for sound samples, etc. At most forums today, you can choose an image to appear next to your posts (avatar) that you think shows the image you want the world to associate with your personality. We have here, instead, Mudcat Photos. These which were first intended for the purpose of being able to recognize fellow Catters at festivals, especially before the advent of easily-used photo and email programs to send your pix out to potential festival-goers to hook up. Now we have a ton of photos that I think spring from the desire to share ourselves in community, putting faces to posts. Remember, when Mudcat was created, almost NO ONE had their own personal website and there was no "MySpace." (There was ICQ and a need to post ICQ-identifiers.) No FlickR. No MSN Groups or Yahoo Groups. Nowadays we have all those, PLUS it is both easy and cheap to make a personal website. Mudcat made these resources available when Mudcat was often the only affordable (free) place to publicize yourself as a musician. Now, of course, we have quite a few more than that, from anyone who cares to submit one for whatever reason. So when we say nowwadays that we want a profile-- if you want a MUDCAT profile, all you need to do is LOOK AT the existing ones. Then create what you want yours to be, and email it all to Pene Azul-- just like it indicates in the FAQ: Subject: RE: Mudcat FAQ - Newcomer's Guide From: Joe Offer - PM Date: 12 Jul 06 - 01:21 PM ... Our member photos and information are available only to registered Mudcatters - you can send photos and get added to the e-mail list by contacting our Tech Guru, Pene Azul, jeff@mudcat.org Jeff can also help you set up a profile. ~Susan |

17 Jan 07 - 01:56 PM (#1939655) Subject: RE: Profiles and Photos From: MMario There was a moritorium on adding event photos and such until they got the duplicate display problem fixed - and "life" happened to Pene as well. |

17 Jan 07 - 03:22 PM (#1939758) Subject: RE: Profiles and Photos From: wysiwyg During the moratorium, FlickR really took off. I dunno if that will remain a free, permanent source for posting photo albums-- I've seen a lot of "free" stuff come and go in the last several years of explosive internet development. Once a "free" service gets you hooked, as I think most folks know, eventually along comes someone's idea of a ready-made income stream. (Remember when cable TV was going to be free, and commercial-free as well?) But I recall Max saying, about song lyrics, that Mudcat would still be here when other sites have come and gone. Mudcat "Event" photos also used to be fairly sparse around here, till affordable (cheap) digital photography coincided with FSGW Getaway really taking off among Catters. Now, the photo section is less about finding one another at festivals and more of a photo-album of good memories for those who attended (and drooling opportunities for those who missed them)... . I have NO idea what Mudcat is willing to maintain for the future, in terms of photo albums. Putting photos up is easy, and so is making a page to put them ON, but storage space for pix can get kinda crowded and expensive to pay for if you want GOOD quality pix of a decent size as we seem to enjoy hereabouts. ~Susan |

I was careful in choosing that one because you'd had a couple of recent surgeries and dental work. We didn't want you to look like a Mr. Potatohead, various pieces lying there waiting to be assembled! (hahaha!) On that photo page I aim for as few of me as possible and good photos of others. SRS |
