17 Jan 07 - 04:57 PM (#1939839) Subject: Lyr Add: DAY IS DONE (Peter Yarrow) From: Peace "Day is Done" Tell me why you are crying my son, I know you're frightened like everyone. Is it the thunder in the distance you fear? Will it help if I stay very near I am here. And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done, And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done. Day is done, Day is done, Day is done, Day is done. Do you ask why I'm sighing, my son? You shall inherit what mankind has done. In a world filled with sorrow and woe, If you ask me why this is so... I really don't know. And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done, And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done. Tell me why you're smiling, my son, Is there a secret you can tell everyone? Do you know more than those that are wise? Can you see what we all must disguise Through your loving eyes? And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done, And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done. Day is done, Day is done, Day is done, Day is done. And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done, And if you take my hand my son, All will be well when the day is done. Day is done, Day is done, Day is done, Day is done.^^^ |

18 Jan 07 - 03:03 AM (#1940206) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jacqui & Bridie 'Take my Hand' From: Scrump This website has some CDs by Jacqui/Jackie: Jacqueline McDonald She was a founder member of the Spinners ("Liverpool Spinners" in the USA) in the late 1950s, but fairly soon left them and formed the duo Jacqui & Bridie (or Jackie & Bridie) wih Bridie O'Donnell. ISTR Bridie is no longer with us, but I can't remember any details (apologies if I'm wrong!) To oggie: the above song was on their 1972 album "Next Time Round" if that helps. |

18 Jan 07 - 07:52 PM (#1941107) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jacqui & Bridie 'Take my Hand' From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) This is the first year (October, '06, actually) that Jacqui did not come over to us to do her annual concert visits. She always sang at Cafe Lena, and two or three other places in the Northeast. She did solo appearances after Bridie's death a few years ago. The two of them were charming performers with much humour. Jacqui's voice is high and expressive. I have a picture of her as a beautiful young girl with that 'new' group, The Spinners. Bridie O'Donnell was of Irish ancestry, a large girl with a hearty voice, made everyone laugh without trying. She was most known for, "The Winkle Song," and everyone would request it. Usually Jacqui was "straight man" to give Bridie a chance to make a joke. They were marvellous. I haven't tried but I'm sure you would get some info if you just type, "Jacqui and Bridie" into a search box. Jacqui was a songwriter, also; one of her best songs is called, "Hold Back the Dawn," written and recorded back in the sixties I would guess. Apart from their performance tours (they once did a command performance for young Queen Elizabeth 11 in the big concert hall when they lived in Liverpool- 1970s?), over the years they owned and ran at least three different coffeehouses, and were good hosts to many USA visiting performers there. They lived in Chester for awhile, but now she and her friend Lynn have a house in the Lake Country and spend much time at a cottage on Luing in Scotland. Jean |

19 Jan 07 - 07:37 AM (#1941426) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jacqui & Bridie 'Take my Hand' From: Nick A couple of friends of ours who used to come and sing with us when we were at the Blacksmiths Arms (in Farlington (N Yorks) before Sam Smiths killed music there) were friends of Jacqui's and she came and sang to us one evening - probably a little over two years ago. The pub was a lovely place to play music and it was good to hear her in such a small intimate venue. As I remember she still sang well and accompanied herself nicely on guitar. I also remember that she had some very entertaining stories from across the years and was a definite character and highly amusing. |

I enjoyed Jacqui and Bridie very much, and my mother loved them. She sent me their 'Farewell' double tape recording when they played their last gig at Cafe Lena. It was a bit funny, because they came from England to play in the US, and someone in the US bought the recording, had it autographed and sent to me, in England. Jacqui McDonald's website. They were very kind. I believe "Bridie" has passed away now. |

Jacqui and Bridie came to my primary school a couple of times, when I must have been anywhere between 5 and 11. So that would be 1977 to 1983 I suppose. Basically a broom handle, stuck in a wellie with lots of bottle tops nailed to it! But it fascinated me at that age... Rich |
