18 Jan 07 - 08:38 AM (#1940420) Subject: RE: BS: Up for a pillow fight? From: MMario well - having been a proffessional for 8 years - I must say that I'm not impressed. Traditionaly pillowfighting should be done on a log, with the purpose being to knock the other off the log. Doing it on mats with little restriction to the movements reduces it from a noble and anciant sport to little more then a tavern brawl. |

18 Jan 07 - 10:47 AM (#1940561) Subject: RE: BS: Up for a pillow fight? From: Scoville My cousin (5'10" and about 225 lbs) did that pillow-fight-on-a-log thing at the Renaissance Faire once and immediately got knocked flat by a girl about half his size. He may never live that down. He blames it on the fact that he was wearing sneakers while she was barefoot and better able to cling to the log, but the rest of us think he's just a klutz. |

18 Jan 07 - 02:51 PM (#1940806) Subject: RE: BS: Up for a pillow fight? From: MMario HEY!!! Since I paid my bills doing pillow fights for eight summers I resent that. In the extreme! And don't knock it until you've tried it. When you are doing it proffessionally it is a lot more then just beating someone with a pillow. And just *try* doing several hundred matches a day. On a good day we averaged a match every minute and a half on the logs (two logs in the circle of hay); or about 3 minutes a match. If the crowd was in a challenging mood I might do ten or twelve matches in a row before stepping off to judge only and not fight. |

19 Jan 07 - 09:49 PM (#1942133) Subject: RE: BS: Up for a pillow fight? From: JohnInKansas I note that the league described in the article is "women only." Perhaps it's the surfacing of things like this that prompted the brief publicity a year or so ago about: EXTREME IRONING! In this sport, the man-about-the-house was required to take iron, ironing board, and wrinkled shirt, alone, to the most remote and extremely hostile environs he could come up with, and return wearing his own freshly ironed shirt. The contest was to see who could find the worst places to "perform." I don't think the Canadians got into that, but it was popular(????) esp. along the northern US for a while. The thing might have lasted better if he'd brought her a fresh one too. "Honey, I'll be back in about three days. I'm going to do some ironing." John |
