Need CD or LP with Mountains o' morn

I'm in search of the song Mountains O' Morn. I believe the Limelighters and Glen Yarbrough did this. I'd like to know which CD or Lp this is on so I can buy the album.

The song was written by Percy French. There are a whole bunch of web sites dedicated to him, his lif and songs.
Don McLean also recorded it.
Many people think that it is a sloppy sentimental Irish song. If you actually look at the words, it actually has quite a bite underneath the superficial sentimentality.
Quack!

(It was written by William Percy French, btw.)

Actually it's a humorous song, not really sentimental at all. It just gets sung that way for some reason.

Yes, it is humorous. The main thought being the lack of sophistication of this country Irish lad.

Don't know how you'd get it but there was a lovely version on an E.P. called 'Otilie (spelling) Sings The Irish' with Otilie Patterson and The Chris Barber Jazz Band.

If this is the song that begins " Oh Mary this London's wonderous sight, with people there working by day and by night," I believe I first heard it on an early Kingston Trio album. And I think Kendall has really nailed its essence.

Bur it's an ironic kind of lack of sophistication, what with his teasing his girl back hiem about the London ladies and all. He appreciates the strangeness of the big city, but isn't that impressed by it.

And the essential truth at the heart of the Irish Troubles is summed up in the line "When we've got all we want, we're as quiet as can be", in the verse about King Edward VII.

I think it's a beautiful song in all its aspects.

Kendall, which record/CD is it on?

The KTrio LP is 'SOLD OUT'. There is a CD of this album coupled with 'STRING ALONG' that I bet you can find at Amazon or such place.

Yes, it's Bob Shane who sang it on the KT album, IIRC.   He only does the 1st, 2nd, and last verses, so it's less political, but the humor's still there.

The tune, BTW, is the same as the one used for Thomas Moore's "Bendemeer's Stream" (or is it "Brendemeer's ... ?" - Damn that dyslexia!). Beautiful melody.

McGrath of Harlow said it well:
"But it's an ironic kind of lack of sophistication, what with his teasing his girl back hiem about the London ladies and all.   He appreciates the strangeness of the big city, but isn't that impressed by it."

My recording of it was on Folk Legacy "Lights Along The Shore"

I was missing the verse about seeing the king. Wish I could re do it.

I'd agree with Effsee. I think I first heard the song on the Don McLean recording, and I've always liked it.
Click this Amazon Search and see if it leads you to an album with the song.

Don McClean appeared on Irish TV ("The Late, Late Show")many years ago and sang his version. The song was well hackneyed by then (Irish people tended to sigh resignedly or head for the loo if someone started to sing it) and his version, with some changes from the original, refreshed it nicely, changing the prism through which we see a well-worn song.
