Dear Mr Red - can you include the following announcement on your website? Or even just a link to http://www.tradartsteam.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/villageband.html#tim

MOSELEY VILLAGE BAND - DAY WORKSHOP

RECREATING THE VILLAGE BAND, led by Tim Hill
Venue: Post Office Rooms, Alcester Road Birmingham 13
Date: Sunday 4 February, from 11am to 5pm
Open to all musicians, price just £12 for the day

Music for the workshop will be taken from medieval dance music, early 19th
century village bands, church and chapel traditions, circus bands and
arrangements of traditional dance music and song, as well as music from
street bands around the world, from the Balkans, Jamaica, India and the
southern United States. The emphasis will be on creating a strong rhythmic
sound, on performing out of doors, and on group playing and improvising.

Tim Hill has been creating outdoor bands, shows and events for other fifteen
years. As a member of the Mellstock Band he has appeared in many film, TV
and radio productions recreating the sounds of village church and dance
bands, his band 'Tongues of Fire' is one of the country's leading street
bands and he runs the 'Albion Horns', a modern village band based in North
Curry, Somerset in association with Folk South West. He also has a
background in jazz and improvised music.

The Moseley Village Band meets twice a month at the Post Office Rooms. It
is a project of the Traditional Arts Team, which also runs a monthly
traditional song session on the first Thursday of each month at mac, Cannon
Hill Park, and a range of storytelling activities - see

We'd really like people to book in advance for this workshop, or at least to let us know if they want to come along, so we can be sure to have enough tea, coffee and biscuits on the day. So give me a call on 0121 244 3513 or email me if you're interested.

Our aim is to get more traditional activities going in the Midlands. All the other regions have workshops, festivals and other ways to join in and have fun while learning about traditional music, dance and song. Let's make sure the Midlands has its fair share.
