I happened upon a YouTube video of Sam McGee playing guitar with Kirk backing him up. I know there are some Sam McGee fans in Mudcat land, so I thought I'd post a link to it...

Wow--great video of the guitar technique.

I'm really starting to like YouTube. I've found some good stuff on there.

The high quality of YouTube's 'ancient' recordings amazes me. Thanks, GLoux.

Sleepycreek, the poster of those videos is doing a service for those who find them, BUT they are available now and again on the old country music shows on RFDTV in far higher quality.   That particular one is from a Wilburn Brothers show. The song that Sam and Kirk are doing was a fairly recent composition, Wheels. It had been recorded by The String-A-Longs and by Billy Vaughn in 1961, and has been covered by other groups many times.

So if you live in the US, and have access to DISH or DirecTV or one of the cable systems that are starting to add RFDTV to their programming, then I would suggest monitoring the guide for these old gems which pop up with regularity.

Many of the old CW performances that I have seen on youtube came from the Wilburn Brothers, Porter Wagoner and similar shows.

Nice clip, just a tad corny for my taste.

A better clip of Sam and Kirk, demonstrating Sam's vocal talents as well, can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvlLViM-ytk

For some reason this clip doesn't come up in the right hand column when you click on the previous link, although it is from the same show.
