New Folk Club Nr Nottingham (UK)

Dear all

Anyone in or around Nottingham, or those not but willing to travel, there is a new folk club starting on Monday 5th March in Lambley just outside Nottingham. For further details, either send a PM to myself or joules, or there is a myspace site with the address and itinery.
Suggestions on what else we could include on the site are welcome!

The Woodlark Folk Club

We'll probably make the trek in school holidays. Is it every week?

No, it's a slightly different format!
Guest nights every 1st Monday of the month, Singers night every 3rd Monday of the month.
Have a look at the link on my first post for the calender.

Couldn't get the link from work due to access restrictions!

Have had a look now - Bob Fox is a good start but it is too far on a school night :-(

Excellent news - there used to be one at Lambley in the sixties - does this count as a revival?
I'll be along.

We did hear of a Lambley folk club past, I suppose you could count it as a revival if you like!

If anyone wants to reserve tickets for any nights please do so!
We've also got George Papavgeris confirmed for June 4th.

Is there another link? The one posted above doesn't seem to work.

Or could someone kindly post the essential details in this thread - venue, day / time of meeting/sessions would do.

Blimey Muppitz,we didn't work that right. We have him at Faldingworth Live on May 4th, which I arranged when we were up at Moor & Coast last year.

Smashing singer/songwriter though and well worth seeing.

Scrump, I've taken the blurb from the site, try going to myspace.com and doing a search for Woodlark Folk Club, see if you can find us that way, in the meantime, have a read of below!

The Woodlark Inn
Church Street
Lambley
Nottingham
NG4 4QB

We will be holding guest nights on the FIRST Monday of every month, the format for the night will be two 20 minute floor spots, one before each guest set which will be approx 45 mins. If you would like to fill one of these 20 minute spots please get in touch in advance of the night. We kindly request that if you have not pre-arranged to do a spot on a guest night, to save on space, that you don't bring instruments with you.
We will also be having a singers/session night every THIRD Monday of the month, please feel free to bring your voices and instruments! No advance booking required!
To get in touch please send a message or alternatively you can e-mail:
thewoodlarkfolkclub@hotmail.co.uk

Hope this helps!

Oh Mr Villan. Mea culpa. You're right - I'm utterly blind. And bats too...

I think it was getting turned down for a support spot at your club that sent me blind (I've never seen eye to eye with you since).

So I do hope Muppitz that your club welcomes blind bats (is new blood appreciated by Nottingham's resident vampires, I wonder? I'd rather not do another gig at Drac's Power Station)
Remember, even Stevie Wonder had to start somewhere!

Blind bats are welcome as long as they don't try to reduce our audience numbers with their bloodsucking!

We have some support spots if you fancy putting your name down for one MoorleyMan!

yeah but Stevie Wonder had talent

All club organisers should heed the words   of the immortal Del brimstone, and should you dont know 'em i'll pm you them on request

Villan , please give muppz a reference, I appear to be seeing too much of nottimgham bus and railway station lately

did you know, if you have to go from Notts to Brum , , National express does it in half the time it take by rail.

Breezy, we may agree to differ on some things, fine, but remember the Beatles were turned down by a major record company (Decca) before they got signed by Parlophone. And there have been many other similar instances. Let's brush aside the thread creep and wish Muppitz well with her new club.

O K , no need for emo MM

But talent counts for a lot and some of us dont have it.

Some of you can write, you are good at that, as for singing , well , best leave that to those who can.

nothing kills off a club more than tuneless, unaccompanied individuals who thimk they they can do what they cant and noone had the honesty to tell em early on.

Go on villy , I'll be forever in your debt, would muppz like waht I do? LOL

Best of luck with your new venture. Many of us have fond memories of the old Lambley Folk Club. I remember with particular pleasure seeing Roy Harris sing there about 30 years ago!

I'm sure it will be a great success.

Breezy, I am sure Mupppitz would like what you do. You were very highly rated when you appeared at MRFC.

Anyway Muppitz and Joules know what they are doing, and I can't think of any people better to make it a big success. They have a passion for music and a wealth of knowledge concerning performers and I am very sure they will succeed where others have failed.

Thanks for the kind words Les!

Breezy, I think the best thing for you to do would be to come down on a singers night, or get yourself on one of the floor spots and then we can judge for ourselves.

Don't be daft - its a long way from St Albans for a floor spot!
Book him for a guest night.

I agree with Sooz Muppitz - John gives 100% peformance - I booked JOhn with trepidation, as i hadn't seen him live, but in all honesty his music and choice of songs was excellent.

Hi Muppitz
How about booking "Derbyshire's Finest" JACK HUDSON?
He's playing at Spondon Folk Club on Tues 13th Feb. Not that far from Lambley I think so you can see for youself how brilliant he is!
If you do book him I might just travel the 250 miles from Dorset and do a floor spot for you.
Anyway Good Luck with the venture. The Folk Club scene needs you!
Regards
CdM

ps If you can't make it on 13th and want a contact number for Jack please PM me

I didn't realise Breezy wasn't a local!

I've been to Spondon on a couple of occasions, sung there too, I think I'm about due for a visit!
I keep hearing good things about Jack, must investigate!

Tina, I'll second the proposals for Breezy and Jack Hudson. Very different to one another but both exceptional.
Catch Jack's set at Spondon if you can, you'll see what I mean.
