You can learn a lot from your Uncles Les, young Fence. If he sez its the way it should be sung, he speaks from a wealth of experience.

few people realise that when Martin Carthy is in a quandary as to which finger to stick in which ear - it is to Les that that he turns evry time.

Shall I stick this finger in Les? Martin asks his voice all of a tremor with artistic tension.
Well it all depends, sez Les, who is all too aware that his opinion counts for something and much may depend on the answer. The thing is I've got Seth Lakeman on the other line and he needs the final word on whether to have a white hare calling him, or black mole, and if he needs to go into the specifics of his conversation with a herbivore. Just then the fax machine goes into overdrive it Paddy Moloney - he's onstage in Peking and he doesn't know whether to do three slip jigs and a hornpipe, or a lament. he just can't gauge the mood of the inscrutable Chinese audience....??

People think all Les does is buy a bottle of cooking sherry and some raffle tickets and hopes for the best. But theres more to it than that.......

I know I am older than you John LOL Harold Wilson was probably the best prime minister Labour have ever had. I even voted for him (and I am conservative).

Yes they do have a myspace site as well, but I always prefer to use the main website if possible.

I am a bit wary of suggesting myspace websites, becuase I beleive that you use up a lot of download size, and if you have a limit on your usage with your broadband ISP, you could be going well over the top through watching the videos. Especially if you get hooked on myspace.

Having just worked through the night to put together a video for YouTube I'd thank you for not reminding people of their bandwidth limits ;-)

Hope you have a good turn out for Dave and Kip.

LOL
I only say it becuase I went over the limit listening and watching possible acts. Forunately my ISP let me off becuase it was the first time.

>>Hope you have a good turn out for Dave and Kip.<<

Well it looks like the weather will be OK for tomorrow. A few flakes here and there but one big dissapointment for my kids :-) So with a bit of luck we will get a decent audience for what will be another very good night.

Great relaxed evening. Aimee Robertson is a little bundle of talent waiting to develop and blossom - watch out for her in a few years when she's had time to grow. The Cater Twins were, well, The Cater Twins - you know what you're going to get, and we got it in abundance. Gwedna's voice was in excellent form, and she's oh so funny!

Winter-Wilson were newly back to gigging after their recording/holiday break but, if there were any cracks, they didn't show - consummate artistry and musucianship. Dave's one of the best songwriters in the UK and their joint performing talents make them a force to be reckoned with. And Kip's singing of Joni's 'A Case of You' was a revelation! Fantastic stuff, all of it.

As for me, I was a bag of nerves and, for the first time since my illness, actually SWEATED during my set. But I got through it so that's a plus.

Thanks to everyone who brought their bum along to put on a seat - vital for the survival of any venue. And mega-thanks to Tecknickle Tel and Gwed for the PA - excellent sound throughout.

Looking forward to Allan Taylor in a few weeks. Bring him on!!

Well if you were a bag of nerves Strollin', it wasn't evident to me. You did some really nice songs and it was really nice to see you back in the swing of things. You did a very good job of MCing and together with your opening floorspot created and set the scene for what you already mentioned "Great relaxed evening".

Hi Strollin'!
Thank you for kind words re our song. Spoke to Ian and he is, like me, very happy for you to sing it if you weren't just joking and want to, as long as you say we both wrote it! :-)

If you do sing it,we would just like it if you could refer people to our myspace site (search Helian Keys on myspace) and ask them to check out the cd and buy it if they like the song? Any chance to promote a bit more fundraising is worth it!

A lot of people still think it is a WWW song and it was not, as I wrote it with Ian, originally intending it to be a Helian Keys song for us to do on piano/vocals, only. We then decided it would be nice if we included parts for Angela, Jacqui and Sharon along with Tracey on fiddle. Being in two bands is great for me, but I have always aimed to keep all WWW songs and all HK songs as separate so that we don't merge into one band doing all the same songs.

OOOps, back to the thread...just realised I still haven't had chance to play the Winter Wilson cd yet...looking forward to it after hearing such a great couple of live sets from them. Looking forward to Allan Taylor gig, too!
