But nevertheless, looking back it seems that they have had an early but short appearance only. Did they split after 4 tracks or so? Who knows anything about this? And from where they came from (indeed, names don't sound danish, but only (?) recordings they made are produced in Copenhagen. Issued on Storyville in those days. Manfred |

30 Jan 07 - 12:39 PM (#1952585) Subject: RE: City Rambler(s) Skiffle Group From: GUEST,bigJ I have a 45 rpm single of the City Ramblers on the Tempo label of London. No idea of the year but I suspect 1958-60. On one side there's 'Mama Don't Allow' and on the other 'Tom Dooley'. At the time, according to the label the group consisted of Russell Quaye - quattro, kazoo, vocals; Hylda Sims - guitar; Jimmie MacGregor - guitar; Chris Bateson - blue-blowing (trumpet mouthpiece); Shirley Bland - washboard and Pete Maynard - tub-bass. The serial number is 45/A 161. Didn't Hylda write an article in the magazine of the EFDSS Several years ago about the City Ramblers? |
