It was common for fans of northern soul (huge subculture in northern england in the 70s) to bring a bag (sportgs holdall type) to all-night dance events with their dancing shoes and a change of clothes. Bags would be adored with patches from different events/clubs. Pretty sure this is what Shane is referencing |
