05 Feb 07 - 02:39 PM (#1958132) Subject: RE: Faca Sibh - meaning???? From: Mr Red Yea the sites I found said more than "faca sibh" to "mean did you see" perhaps with an Am in front. Maybe this is a Scots (Hebredes) dialect. But like the French say "come ce" as dimminutive of "come ce come ca" perhaps this is formal verses colloquial/lyrical |

06 Feb 07 - 05:09 AM (#1958752) Subject: RE: Faca Sibh - meaning???? From: GUEST,Donald In Scots Gaelic, I feel the phrase rather implies a once-of event so 'did you (pl) see?' rather than ''have you seen?', but a lot will depend on the context. |

06 Feb 07 - 05:16 AM (#1958756) Subject: RE: Faca Sibh - meaning???? From: GUEST,Mr Red The specific context is the song sung by the Poozies et al. If anyone has knowledge of the song as well as speaking Gaelic - I would be greatful of elucidation - but I am obviously close to "seeing" it. |
