08 Feb 07 - 09:00 AM (#1961072) Subject: The 'Fake Awards' From: YorkshireYankee At Kiveton Folk Club Tuesday evening (6th Feb), Keith Kendrick performed a splendid couple of sets, and read out a most entertaining list of "Fake Awards" -- apparently put together by Jim Causley and 'announced' at the Magpie's Survivors' Party following the Folk Awards. I've Googled to see if I can find 'em, but no joy. I'd love to share them at tonight's folk club ('Raise the Roof' at the Red Deer in Sheffield, just in case anyone reading might like to attend)... can anyone here point me to where/how to get a copy? Many thanks -- YY |

08 Feb 07 - 09:36 AM (#1961111) Subject: RE: The 'Fake Awards' From: GUEST It was a bit of fun, really, so the results probably aren't published anywhere. The event was organised by Sam Lee from the club, and hosted by Jim and Lauren from The Devil's interval. James Fagan definitely won Her Eyes On (His Bum), the Folk Rear of the Year award. And the bloke from David and David won the Folkoshop Award, which was for the best CD cover art...the prize was a nasty little stuffed squirrel holding a camera, secured to a plank of wood via a nail up its bum. Spectacular. And Shirley Collins won the Disorder of the British Empire Award, accepted on her behalf by Malcolm from EFDSS. There were other awards, too, and some nice informal performances from the assembled throng (Askew Sisters, Lisa Knapp, Jim Moray, Laurel Swift, Peta Webb's superstar band, etc etc...) The afternoon rounded off with a lovely, relaxed session. Well done to Sam - can't wait for next year! |

08 Feb 07 - 01:11 PM (#1961342) Subject: RE: The 'Fake Awards' From: GUEST,I woz there... Ah Guest (unnamed) - you forgot the "What Seems Like a Lifetime" award - in recognition of the hard work of band members - which went to various - members of Jim's family, and Devil's Interval - all those who have had to live with and work with Jim - a lovely and tatty looking old mantelpiece clock accepted by Lauren on behalf of the others. Then there was the record company award ... the F-A Award for Label of the Year. Nominations were (apparently) Wildgoose Records, Fellside Records, Topic Records and Veteran Records (strange how all the head honchos of those companies seemed to be in the room at the time!) ..... and the award was won by... Warner Bros. The man from Warner Bros who turned up later in the proceedings to pick up the award with beautifully coloured shirt and dark shades seemed to bear an incredible likeness to Paul Sartin (funny that!) And the Murky award - which seemed to be awarded after nearly everybody (including me) had left which went to our very own Ruth Archer - for reasons which are clouded in mystery (as was the rather nasty substance in the jar which the prize consisted of). I believe the nomination process was somewhat indistinct ,and the votes were being discounted before the start of proceedings (according to the publicity blurb anyway) The Pholkoshop Award itself was definitely the best looking one - I didn't think the squirrel was nasty - but the nail's positioning was a bit squeamish making. It looked sweet with the little camera in it's paws!!! And the other award was the "Friends and Influence" award , which was subject to open auction of morals ! Won by Tim Van Eyken whose pledge of morals swept the board. Just as well as the award being presented was actually the one he'd won the night before, and which had, I believe been nicked during the subsequent knees up.... A jolly little romp.... and thoroughly enjoyable, particularly the session afterwards. Congrat to the organisers of the proceedings. |
