I went out with a girl called Beverley
She was a right old slapper
The sex crazed daughter of old Ned Butcher
An unemployed wheel tapper.

Oh ar.

Bert Jansch on his first (or possibly 2nd?) solo album with several of his women lounging about on the sleeve, one of which was the future one-time Mrs Martyn, said in the sleevenotes for entirely obscure reasons that 'Beverley hates spiders'. The song was Oh My Babe (I think, I don't have it to hand). That do?

And there are lots of songs about 'Ull, an outlying suburb of Beverley . . .

Do you want a specific "Beverley" song which you can't recall or will any old Bev do ??

I knew you would come up trumps. Not sure about the slapper one though Guest, I don't think the lady in question would approve, she is a bit of a Mrs Bouquet. She will certainly be happy that there is a song somewhere out there with her name in it though. I have also found Dearest Beverly which was, apparently, the first song ever written by Jimmy Cliff. It would be nice to get some lyrics too but that is proving rather fruitless.
Thanks to all

Then there's the Pub con-trick where you bet someone a round of drinks that you can sing a well known song with their name in it (without any fore-knowledge of their name), and sing "Happy Birthday" straight after they give you some obscure name.

Of course there's the old joke about "I can sing you a song with any girls name you care to mention in it '!................. Someone will always try to catch you out... but hey... there's always :- Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear (whoever). Happy Birthday to you.... Sadly the name is not in the title as you required.

Anyone know "Saturday Morning in Beverley Market?

Heard 40 years ago from a local support band for Fairport at Hull University and though most of the words have gone that damn tune not forgotten! Does anyone have the words?
