BS: Baftas: Am I missing someting here?

Best film: The Queen
Best British Film: The Last King Of Scotland. (Also nominated: The Queen)

But if The Queen is the best film; and it's British; then, surely, it is, by definiton the best British film.

Or have I missed the point? Is it even important?

But isn't Scotland now British too - it's definitely not English!

You're missing the 'h' in "something."

If you didn't see the BAFTA ceremony, you've already missed it. It was last night.

It's who stumps up the cash. Bond, Harry Potter, Tolkien, etc, and now The Queen - in spite of the number of Brits on screen or behind the camera, they've all been made with American money, and all the profit from the films goes to America. Therefore they're American films, because they're only financing British individuals in film work and not supporting a continuing British film industry.

Graham.

I wouldn't be surpised to find that The Queen actually received the most votes for best British film as well. It would seem logical for the rules to provide that the winner of the more prestigious category become ineligible for the lesser.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won the US Academy Award in 2000 for best foreign-language film, but it had also been nominated for best picture. Had it won best picture, I'm sure the foreign-language award would have gone to the second-place finisher.

Yeah, Bee-dubya-ell, that seems to make sense. I'm sure that's the reason.

In that case, maybe the Best British Film category should be renamed Best of the Rest.
