It seems that a lot of us were born in 1947, and will be celebrating the big Six-Oh this year ! Does anyone have any big plans ??

My "other half" was born in 1947 (he's older than me!) but I'm not into these celebrations every ten years so I don't think we'll do anything big although he would love to. His birthday this year is on a Sunday so we'll probably go away for the weekend and have a nice meal out. We may also have a meal out with family at some point as well.

Greetings:

I just turned 60 on February 13. Two days earlier I had a big party where lots of friends, past and present, showed up. Among them were the three people, other than relatives, whom I have known the longest. They are my best friend from junior high school (Michael Pines), someone I met on a peace march in 1964 (Elliot Linzer), and my girlfriend from when I was 18 years old (Peggy Hopper). It was really great seeing them all together.

I'll be 60 in July this year but we'll be living in or near Dunfermline by then. I left Electrolux after 19 years last September so I'm planning a "Leavin' Do" early 60th and a "tarra, we're moving" Disco at a local club. Dancing, drinking etcetc.

I'm hoping for an early birthday party when my daughter and her family come visit in July.

My birthday was the same day as India and Pakistan got their independence, August 15th. Good day for a curry!

What is age anyway...just an illusion...we are as old as we feel or how is it the saying goes 'as old as the person we feel.....I am not telling you how old she is!......Seriously folks...this growing old thing is not so bad..another day of life, another day of learning, another day of appreciating the finer things in your life and getting ...... off with the not so fine ones. All part of lifes rich tapestry I say....

I reach the big 60 in May too - as does my twin, which should come as no surprise! She's making the big trek to Cairns, Far North Queensland from the English Midlands, so that we can do the thing properly, and then I'm introducing her to real Oz 'Folk' at the Top Half Folk Festival in June at Glen Helen in Central Australia (via Alice Springs). Could be a festival to remember - but then they all are in the Territory.

Happy Birthday to all the other celebrators.

I've been telling people already, when they ask, that I am 60. It's a bit of a lie but what the heck........ I'm feeling pretty good about being 60. Such a nice number. Had a 59th birthday bash 'cos 59 is such a 'nothing' sort of age isn't it? It was good but now I want the 60th birthday bash. Wahoo to all of us 60-yers in 2007. How good are we eh?

1947 was a VERY good year with prolific production levels. Not all that promising to begin with, but over the passage of time has reached a maturity that belies its disadvantaged beginnings and, even if acquired at this late stage, still has the potential to be even more full bodied with a well rounded finish for many years to come. All things considered it's still a good buy if you can get it, but remember to treat it with the respect it deserves.

April for me, maybe have a quiet pint.

I was born on July 3rd 1947. My Mum told me about the terrible winter and that she went to the pictures early afternoon on the day I was born to see "White Cargo" with Hedy Lamarr and Walter Pigeon. The week after she told me the film was on BBC2 one afternoon.
Pointless but a lot of strange and pleasurable details are.

Sinsull, I totally concur with that sentiment....I fancied girls of 23yrs of age when I was 19.....and still do...sad though that might seem...I do however have the dignity....which goes with my age...to behave in a manner according to it......but even that is sad in a way as I would not want to be labelled paedophile! I guess I can understand how some men (particularly) become labelled with it. There are similar women out there but due to the nature of 'boys' complaints are rarely made...is that true?

Ah Georgiansilver - not true. Just less 'sensational' or 'dramatic' and statistically a lot less. But there nevertheless. Convicted as much, reviled as much etc. etc. I have so enjoyed the passing of years while watching the fear of many at the idea of 'age'. 1947 was the year that produced many of the "live hard, die young, make a good corpse" and "gonna die by 30" all of which are a good rebellious stance but don't do much for the inevtiably of aging. I love the freedom of mind and spirit that comes with my age, the acceptance and tolerance of the foibles of humanity that comes with wisdom of time, sheer white rage and 'don't care' attitude of taking up inhumanity and injustices, the ability to love wholeheartedly and without fear due to a 'what-the-hell' attitude - oh so much stuff. I figure I might have 40 good years left in me, on the positive side which means that I've lived most of my life now. The rest of it is going to be so good. Oh, there is the occasional twinge and ache and sometimes I am very slow to 'get' things, but maybe that was always the case? And I do rely more and more on other people to remind of important things but maybe that is rat cunning rather than old age. Why remember useless stuff when someone else will? Maybe we should elect a Mudcat "Day of 60" where we just poing each other with good messages, wishes, promises, threats, memories, etc?

Hi Hilda....when I was Running a Child Care establishment in a city in the UK.... a male friend was sacked because he, whilst under the influence, had sat by a boys bed and talked with him when he was upset (the boy that is).......Two early 20's females were caught in bed with two teenage boys.....these 'women' were the head and deputy of the Childrens home...they were assisted in a transfer to work with the elderly....where I ask is the justice?...this was the same local authority. I believe we underestimate the bahaviour of some women in society...it is always the men who do these things?????? What?????
I personally don't believe that.

Just for the record - and nothing to do with this thread - but response to Georgiansilvers' last - have to say over 90% of prison inmates convicted of sexual offenses are male not female and that, so far as stats show, females don't tie their sexual offenses with homicide whereas often males do. Where females are convicted of sexual offenses against minors they generally get far harsher sentences than do males (for explainable reasons). Just to set the record straight I guess. Meanwhile;

I also will be sixty this year. Born on the Queen's 21st Birthday I was (hence the middle name ELIZABETH).

Thinking about the "you are as old as you feel" bit. Myself and three similar aged female friends went on a "Girls Night Out" - That's what it was called and it was just that. It was at the Theatre with several hunky young men cavorting around the stage in various states of undress and doing quite provocative, sensual things, think they were singing a bit too. It wasn't pornographic or anything, just a good laugh and quiet enjoyable, as I recall. They certainly got lots of wolf whistles and signs (sighs!!) of approval from the audience.

Upon leaving the Theatre - one of the 'GIRLS' in our group pointed out two women and said "Look at those two - you wouldn't think they would come to anything like this would you?" I pointed out that perhaps they too were thinking exactly the same when they looked at us three.

Some people you cannot imagine ever being young can you - i.e. Prince Charles - he always seems to have been middle aged - don't you think? Could think of several others, but perhaps not right now.
Need to slip into my slippers and get my Ovaltine. Good night.
