Two lines apiece until four verses are completed. No more than two lines per verse by any individual. (so no "Guest") A complete work over by all when we're done (With a vote on the final version) And finally; we each create a chorus (if needed) with a vote on that also. No royalties attached or donate it to the cause. Who's game? First two lines.... (mind the meter) It barely seems like yesterday, You held me in your arms. |

21 Feb 07 - 07:02 PM (#1975425) Subject: RE: Let's write a song together! From: Dave Wynn But Jim Lad what does it say (I mean that sans crique). Why not story board a theme in some detail then ask for suggestions on metre, pace and lyrics. I don't write as a general rule so it's all a bit foggy to me but how about : A Style e.g. Trad, Modern, timeless A basic theme e.g. a human state or emotion, love, cowardice, fear, hope, desire, hate, compassion. A location e.g home, away, lost, the sea, a city, a river, a mountain A start Scene setting, character(s) A finish e.g. unrequieted, indeterminate, happy, complete, failure, death. If I may continue take Little Pot Stove (Harry Robertson) he starts the song with "Where the winter blizzards blow and the whaling fleet's at rest Tacked in Leith harbour's sheltered bay safely anchored ten abreast" This sets the style, the location and a situation of temporary safely in just two lines. The next two lines brings some characters and explains what they are doing there. Writing by committee is uncommon but t'committee need to to know the basics like start, general content, way to go and end. Give us a storyboard and see if it works. Dave Wynn (A.K.A Spot the Dog) |

21 Feb 07 - 11:14 PM (#1975644) Subject: RE: Let's write a song together! From: Jim Lad Spot The Dog: There's a stretch of highway, (a few hundred miles of it) Highway 16 West which runs west of Prince George, BC out to Terrace and then on to Prince Rupert. The route has been named "The Highway of Tears" in recent years due to the mysterious disappearance of many young women, most of them Aboriginals. I would be very interested in seeing how some of us would handle this particular topic. From the families' points of view or the girl herself. Alone in the wilderness. Her fate unknown. Wouldn't really touch on what's probably happened to her. The fact that they're Aboriginals is thought by many to be the main reason that these losses could go on for so long, without any kind of intervention by the R.C.M.P. Now, I know this road very well and would be inclined to stay out of the actual writing but could certainly help out with the geography. (although it probably wouldn't be necessary) Would that be something we could get our teeth into? Search.... "Highway of Tears, Highway 16, BC, Canada" and I have no doubt that you'll find something. When one of you is ready, start a new thread "Highway of Tears" and go about building the song in whichever way you choose. (two lines at a time didn't work) |

22 Feb 07 - 12:38 PM (#1976117) Subject: RE: Let's write a song together! From: Dave Wynn I wouldn't say flawed Jim Lad, in three days you have a song that just needs a tune and possibly a refrain. At the risk of getting cut up I would suggest that Swallow is substituted for Sparrow and walking on broken glass I would re-arrange the first line of the last verse to read "So now I'll say goodbye ,my love" (dunno why) I like the idea of Highway of Tears, I will look on the net as you recommend.
