Obit: Audrey Smith (9 Feb 2007)

Passed away 9th February 2007. I've only just heard, and thought that others may not have done so.

Some of you in the UK may have known Audrey, who back in the '70s did the rounds of the clubs with John Timpany, and, until she moved to Gloucestershire, used to run the singaround at Grendon, Northants. She was a regular for many years at the Song & Ale at Whittlebury, Northants., always sharing unusual songs or versions of songs, frequently with understated but delightful humour. Due to ill health, she's been missed there for the last few years, but is now at rest.

Sad to hear - a lovely lady and a fine singer. I have had the pleasure of hearing her over the last few years at the monthly song sessions at the Fleece in Stroud.

Lovely recordings of Audrey Smith on Musical Traditions' "Songs from the Golden Fleece" double CD set: She sings Death of Parker, Garners Gay, Bury Me On Sunday, Some Rival, and the Housewifes' Lament.

A lovely lady - I had the pleasure of meeting her, and hearing her sing a couple of times in Stroud last year, and was sorry to hear the news earlier this month.

This is sad news. Her recent publication, A Little Book of Northamptonshire Song, is reviewed in the new issue of English Dance & Song magazine, due out this weekend. Condolences to her friends and family.

She was, indeed, a lovely lady.

Met her a few times at the folk club which used to meet at 'The Artichoke', Moulton village, just outside Northampton, 20 years ago.

Simon Care used to frequent the same location on occasions!

I'm very sorry to hear this - I spent many a happy hour at the club in Grendon in the mid eighties (shifts permitting!). It was one of the most enjoyable clubs I have been to over the years - a very friendly atmosphere.

I bumped into her at the last Sutton Bonnington National, in 2005, and caught up with some of her news.

Another great loss to the world.

Yes, very sad to hear it. I met her at the Grendon club too, which we used to frequent when we lived in Northampton. Anyone know how old she was?

Love Lynne

I remember them both playing around Yorkshire back in the seventies, a very nice couple. Used to enjoy listening to them.

I believe that she was 85.
